defrost a cube and strain it. You can then weigh/measure it.

These are fantastic - very useful. I would say one of these cubes is about two fat cloves crushed. I wish I could still get them at my local Asda - they have stopped getting them in.

I saw these today at the local Asda for £1 for a pack and there seems to be a fair amount, I thought they look like a brilliant idea. It might be worth buying a pack or two.
They also have ginger. It would be nice to see what others think of them. Also I would be interested in how many cloves is in a cube approximately too. |

I would say a cube is around 2 medium cloves. They do ginger and chilli as well.

Totally worth it though, they're so easy and flavourful, I cut them in half for mild meals, so they last ages too. I'll keep an eye out for the chilli ones (though my fav chilli product at the moment is the jars of chopped ones in oil) |

I love frozen garlic! Quick, easy and doesn't affect the taste like the jars of lazy garlic type things. In fact, I often think freezing garlic brings out the flavour. Always seems to smell more to me at least. Lovely!
I get it from Asda too (but it isn't the one linked to above - different brand I think), but have also seen frozen garlic in Morissons and Waitrose. Much smaller packs though and it is loose chopped garlic, not ice cube block type like the ones from Asda. |

See I think they are handy for me because I mainly make meals for one (me) so when a recipe calls for garlic I end up buying one garlic using two cloves (at the very most) and then the rest goes to waste. So these frozen ones just seemed a good idea for me, however if you use garlic so much is it actually cheaper? Just curious if it is, not having a go or anything

I usually freeze leftover ginger/chillis- they're mushy when defrosted but ok for most dishes - are the cubic versions of those less mushy? |

I've not used these frozen garlic cubes, but regularly use garlic paste in a tube - keeps in the fridge for ages and you literally can use as little as you want. I'd imagine with the cubes your stuck with using a whole cube each time?

I was recently in UK and was amazed that anyone would pay £1 for tray of small ginger and garlic cubes. Maybe it is me but when I saw them in Sainsbury's (and other supermarkets) I just laughed and thought I wish I was a shareholder in the company that makes them.
Buy a small coffee grinder if you do not have one and make your own - put the garlic and a little water in it and grind them up and put it on to some non stick paper and freeze - break it up when it has frozen and put back in freezer. You can make loads for not much money, do the same with ginger. Sometimes I don't put any water in and just scrape it out of the grinder onto the paper and freeze, Fresh coriander - put in a larger food processor after cutting the stalks so they do not catch round the blade then put onto the paper and freeze then put into a plastic zip lock bag or box and put back in the freezer. I don't even bother to peel the ginger but if you want to just scrape a tea spoon over the skin and it will come away easily. It is fine for curries etc as you can cook out the liquid but no good for sprinkling on the top of a dish. |

Anyone know who else sells these.
Asda has moved from £1 for 400 grams Taj to £1.50 for 80 grams of pointless Doro. Is there any point now when fresh is cheaper? |

I get garlic puree in a tube for when I can't be bothered to mince fresh and I get garlic ginger puree in a jar. It lasts a month in the fridge and I usually use it before that. https://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...GoqU8gO-3sTvBw Handy for those who don't use garlic regularly, but as you say, it's becoming very expensive |

It seems that bigger Tesco stores stock Cofresh Crushed Garlic 400G so I'm very much in luck.
My local Tesco only has those dinky Doro ones. Very easy to see why. I've no idea but doubt if those Frozen food shops that seem to sell mainly Turkey Twizzlers will stock any. |

Its just naughty to remove the 400g for £1 and switch to 80g for £1.50.
That's a 750% price increase. |

Just a thumbs up for Cofresh crushed garlic. (Tesco and maybe other places)
They come flat packed in a resealable packet and less likely to stick together. Like the crushed pepper these are brilliant. Stock up while you can. That other Doro band is 7 to 8 times the price for the same stuff! |

I've something similar to this for garlic and ginger prep -
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Garlic-Grate...xp_grid_pt_0_1 Brilliant. Crushers etc are obsolete to me. Quick, easy, no waste at all, and dishwasher safe. What more could you want?!

Seems useful. I hate peeling garlic.
I'm a very big fan of frozen vegetables, especially the green types. |

I always have a stock load of either the Dorot or the sainsburys own version. I have garlic, ginger and chilli's. I don't use them all the time but very handy if i need to cook something and havent got any fresh stuff in.
I HATE peeling ginger and garlic with a passion so i love it!!

I found the Taj cubes to be quite bitter and burnt-smelling (before cooking) compared to fresh. If convenience was really a premium I'd probably go with the jarred stuff.
