Tess's togs
reclinewithme

Come on, let's discuss Tess Daly's outfits!

I personally liked the vivid lemon thing she had on for the launch show - very 70s, very Anthea Redfern. Tess used to really bug me but I find myself warming to her now. I look forward to reviewing her clothes week by week. Hope someone will want to join me

It's all a bit pointless isn't it?

What she wears won't be her choice, it will be chosen for her. So it'd be a bit unfair to criticise "her choices" as I guess she'll have little say in the matter..

She's just little more than an "attractive auto-cue reader" or you could say, "the point of sale promotional material."

In any event, what she says, does, or wears, isn't really important or an essential part of the show.

Well I think it does as she is part and parcel of the show. I like her by the way but didn't like that yellow jumpsuit thingy at all either.

Actually BBC Wardrobe doesn't do the costumes Tess wears. She chooses her own clothes and has a 'lady' who makes them for her. This has been said a couple of times on ITT.

I really liked it! I don't like all her choices though and I either love or hate what she wears. Going by the threads for the live show on a Saturday night, her choices are definitely a Marmite subject!

I think for this sort of show she needs to wear a dress as it is more in keeping with the concept of strictly

She rarely wears anything but a dress and what she had on was bang on trend. I think her choices for her role are spot on, but whether or not I like them is a different matter.

Looked like she was channeling Purdey from the Avengers.(and failing). Joanna Lumley would have rocked that outfit.

There's always a lot of "spin" on ITT.

Yeah! and the dancers choose their own costumes, don't they?

We've been down that road so many times before.

It's always "Hobson''s" choice" for them all. She's had some really awful outfits in the past, can't believe she actually chose some of them.

I loved it. I actually gave her a wolf whistle when I saw it. I though she looked great in it. But then she has the figure to carry most things off. I'd look like a bottle of sunny delight if I attempted same.

Sorry, but it was Tess who said it herself on ITT and in magazine interviews she's done (IIRC she gets an allowance or it is built into her contract - something like that).

Some of the dancers occasional use one of their own costumes (e.g. Erin), but usually the costumes are designed by Sue Judd's team as part of the theme for each series (don't ask) and the pro dancers have a say once they have seen the basic design.

I don't get your comment about a lot of spin on ITT tbh.

There was quite a lot of side-boob, for which I have to give thanks.

Bit of a shock that, but nice one for some!

I'm the same Buddy, I either really like what she wears or really really don't!! I thought the yellow jumpsuit was lovely the other night although a little bit ill-fitting at the top somehow. Maybe just the style of it, but on a whole I really liked it.

TV shows are "all smoke and mirrors." That includes a lot of "spin." I never take what is said in certain situations at face value.

Like the dancers chosing the music. This has come up before and it's been said by at least one of them that it's what they do. But what they ommitted to say, was that it is always from a list.

As for the dancers "having a say." With the time constraints and so much to be done, I bet it ain't much of a say.
As for Tess's remarks, I'd never believe everything such people are reported to have said in interviews, some of it will be the truth, conjecture, wishful thinking or "bigging up their part." In the end they do and say what they are told by the BBC.
We've seen what happens to those on the show who don't.

I'd suggest Tess will wear what she's told to wear. Hence some pretty awful choices.on occasions.

I know what 'spin' means. I just found it hard to work out how it can be applied to a show like ITT.

All I can say is that I am clearly as less cynical person than you. I pick and choose carefully what I watch on TV and in the main I watch to relax, so I do take shows like SCD and ITT largely at face value because they are meant to be light entertainment.

If the pros say they choose the music, then maybe that's what they did in the early series and maybe the process for choosing the music has been adapted over the years. Certainly in the early days, the pros supplied the producers with a list before each series. That may not be how things work now, but there could be any number of explanations for why something is the way it is.

I'm not going to sit there thinking I don't believe this or I don't believe that. Not for for shows like ITT or SCD.

All I said was Tess chooses her own clothes, not the BBC. Maybe she is told what to wear each week, maybe it is her choice. Who cares?

Given the length of your post, you seem to more than do I.

It's all just opinions, though isn't it?
