Terry's Chocolate Orange
Soundbox

Just wondering about these.

I used to really enjoy them - and always got them as Christmas and birthday gift fillers. Then one day I had one slice and noted that it tasted slightly different - more sweet and with a slightly potent orange taste. Still nice though.

After 10 minutes I felt odd and wheezy and then I puffed up with terrible allergy hives that lasted over a week. The difference - the Orange was no longer made in the UK but in eastern Europe.

I tried half a slice a year later and suffered the same itchy and wheezy fate.

Is it just co-incidence that I became allergic to them the first time I tried an east European one, or was there evem mention of a change in recipie or ingredients sourcing?

I really miss having one now and again.

I don't know if there's been a change in recipie. You could email them to find out, so you have a better idea of which ingredient you are allergic to.

I usually buy the single bars (or they come in a 4 pack in supermarkets). Still taste nice but not as special anymore. Maybe it's just my age or change in tastes, but they used to taste more like a treat rather than a regular chocolate.

You are not allergic to nuts are you?
So many food items these days seem to have warnings on the packs saying they are not suitable for nut allergy sufferers due to the manufacturing methods used.

You know, I ate one of these the other day and my lips and mouth felt all tingly and weird. I took a piriton because I felt like I had a bit of an allergy attack coming on.

No, I'm good with allergies - no hay fever even. But that tingly feeling you mention radioamerica - that is just what I got - like it was reacting with me and angering my system. I suppose I had just better stay clear.

I was going to contact Terry's but the responce would not be much help I feel - "we sell many oranges per year and many people are satisfied" etc.

I dunno about the allergy thing, but the "dark" Red ones are getting harder to find, especially when they are on offer
