That will work straight out of the box with a 64 bit Win 7 OS, using window drivers or downloading drivers/updates that will work???

Bloody Hell!---- mutter, mutter.

From my own experiences most of the Huawei that are given away with Vodafone , orange or Three networks work just by plugging in and running the software that's on the drive . No issues with the 64bit version of W7 . What problems are you having ?

Hi iangrad,

I am looking for a standard bluetooth dongle for connecting/transferring data to and fro from mobiles and such to a PC/laptop or vice versa.

I have an old one which I can get to work with my laptop, ( bit, Win 7 HP ) but it is hit and miss.

I purchased some cheepos off the internet the other day, not one of them could I get to connect to my laptop, I tried everything, from software downloads to swearing.

I was wondering if there is something that would work straight out of the box?

It seems to me most kind of Bluetooth dongles/software available work with 32 bit systems only, unless you muck about trying upgrading drivers and so on.

Also, Is there a way I can use a mobile phone, ( as a modem ), as a way of connecting to the internet via the laptop,---like using it as a internet dongle kind of thing?

On Android, go to Settings> Wireless and networks> Tethering. Tick the "Mobile AP" box. Press "Mobile AP settings" and you'll get the name of the wifi hotspot your phone has created. Eg "AndroidAP1956". Search for it with laptop and hey presto...

This Dynamode dongle works in Win 7 64 bit. It's even listed on the Microsoft site as being officially supported and compatible with 64 bit.

You may find it even cheaper elsewhere if you shop around.

Yes, this one - its the dogs bollox and cheap as well http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ef=oss_product

Does everything you need, works great in 64bit Win.

You will need to download their drivers for full functionality. See the user reviews to find them.

My Technika Tesco dongle worked 2 years ago.
(Compaq W7 64 laptop)

I bought two. Never even opened the second. I had vague unrealistic plans of Bluetooth peer-peer network.

In the end I found it was easier transferring data by taking out the uSD card from my phone and putting it in a USB adaptor.

I don't even use my USB/phone cable.

At first I thought I had to use Samsung (rubbish) software to transfer, but actually the phone just appears as an external drive in Windows.

Anyway swapping card is easier I find.

Thank you every one for the replies.

Smudged, I have booked marked that, if this doesn't do it for me and I have ordered one, I'll try yours.

Some of the reviews said mine was Win 7 64bit compatible, we shall see.

Choc' thank you, I had already seen your one, I own a larger Belkin dongle, F8T 012 which works hit and miss even with the 64 bit drivers download hence my thread.

But in anticipation of the above I had already down loaded, ( not installed), the 64 bit drivers for this dongle, I may end up getting one yet.

Hi Robin,

Yes, apparently a lot of the software/drivers for BT dongles supposedly for 64 OSs are rubbish, it was the reason for my thread.

Still I hope my issue is resolved now.

Thanks every one.

Orchover, my apologies I've just recognized my mistake, I'm very sorry.

Your thread gave me some insight so I went looking.

I have a N86 which uses Symbian something.

While it may not be a feat and an old ability for most mobile/laptop users, early this morning I managed for the first time and very simply to turn my N86 into wifi hotspot, ( using some down loaded free software ), via bluetooth to connect my laptop to the internet, yesssssssssss.

Again sorry about getting your name wrong and thanks for the advise.

Broadcom are a good make for BT dongles. I've got one of their small ones pluugged into a USB port inside my desktop PC so I can connect bluetooth devices and it's been fine so far with Vista 64 bit & Win 7 64bit.
