I have just received notification from Vodafone that as of 10th October they are increasing the monthly cost of ALL monthly price plans taken out before feb.

When I signed up in june 2010 I paid 35 a month, in january this increased to 35.75 because of VAT, but now they want to increase it to 36.00. Are they allowed to do this mid contract? Price of calls are also going up.

as much as i find it annoying when you say again when was the last time they changed pricing like this mid contract, i honestly cant remember a time.

You cannot surely be blaming them for the VAT rise

I'm not blaming them for the VAT rise. When they increased my monthly charge by 75p because of the VAT rise I was cool with that.

The change they are implementing in a months time is nothing to do with VAT. They say they are simplifying the pricing structure.

They are also rounding up your bill to the next pound too, they obviously think their users are too stupid to understand the concept of pounds and pence and need it simplifying by rounding up to the next pound

There might be something in the terms and conditions.

However, it's a little cheeky - and I'm pretty sure that for any contract, if the terms are changed then you are allowed to cancel within a certain timeframe - regardless of any pre-existing conditions.

Well technically they are increasing prices again. The reasoning behind it doesn't matter, they raised them once, now they're raising them again.

No they aren't they're rounding the line rentals up to the next 50p as they're all odd, presumably due to the VAT rise. http://www.vodafone.co.uk/personal/p...nges/index.htm

I've not confirmed this but I have a strong suspicion that arbitrarily rounding peoples bills up to the next pound without any extra billable service being provided would be illegal.

Interesting move by Vodafone and a dangerous one as any change to contracts that are detremental to subscribers allow them to cancel their contract without penalty.

So who will be cancelling with Vodafone to save the 50p a month or less they have been charged extra?

According to the Ts & Cs they wont release you from your contract unless your price increases by 10%.

Not sure whether they can actually do that but for 50p I doubt anybody will be giving it a go.

But they may lose customers when the contracts are over.
I have not had any email or notice to say the prices are going up, if mine went up I would not be impressed.

Just looked and started this contract after Feb, so that is why it is not affecting me

True, although a customer who is willing to refuse whatever retentions deal they get offered because of a <50p increase was probably going to leave anyway. I imagine that other than those contracts ending shortly after the increase, all will be forgotten by the time contract renewal comes around.

I have another 17 months for my contract to run and i decided that I will go back to a sim only contract, if the phone is still working I will keep using it, if not I will get another phone or go back to the phone I had before my HTC.

sure i may miss some functions like facebook and email, but it will be a lot cheaper.

Personally I pay for a sim-free phone then stick to sim only contracts - usually works out cheaper, your phone is unbranded and you have the choice of signing up to a rolling contract for flexibility or signing up for a minimum turn for extra discounts.

My HTC is more or less unbranded, very little Vodafone stuff on it and what is on it I ignore.

Sim-free phones are to expensive to pay out for all at once, you are they do work out cheaper. as I said i will keep tot he wildfire for as long as it lasts and go sim only contract when my contract runs out.

that is completley un true, do you understand the idea of net and gross pricing.

in January the net price charged and influenced by Vodafone remained unchanged, the gross price increased 2.1% due to a 2.5% vat increase which is dictated by governement.

in October the Vodafone net price will be increased. on which the vat at 20% will be charged to get the new gross price.

so under any technicality you want to present Vodafone are increasing prices, not increasing prices again.
