It is now live to download through the receiver itself by going to Software Update in the menu and searching for one.

Can someone explain how to do this on the Humax box?
I tried 'Auto Update' but the box cannot find any updates available. Am on release 15. Thanks for your help. |

Are you really sure that you are still on release 15. The DTG website shows release 17 OTA from the 13th. The Humax box should have updated at 3am in the morning of the 13th or 14th without any user intervention. The fact that trying to update OTA manually this morning shows 'no update available' is indicative that it has already updated to release 17 without your knowledge.
To double check current firmware level. press menu choose system option (bottom icon on LHS) choose diagnostics |

Why is it impossible to fix? One tuner does the EPG and the other keeps the show on in the background.
Ive asked many times but no one has answered why this does not happen. Thus you cannot watch TV while it downloads/unpacks the guide data. The box can record to raw streams of data (programs) but only has one chip-set to unscramble it to view or extract the EPG. Automan. Last edited by Automan : 14-10-2011 at 10:27. Reason: ftp already fixed by the guru's |

Mine updated overnight OK and it does seem to have partially fixed the EPG problem in that you can make a reservation before the EPG finishes downloading.

I think the problem is related to the fact that some people only have single feeds from the lnb to the HDR so the epg has to be downloaded with one tuner .
I don't see why with two cables connected that it can't download the epg when the button is pressed operating the unused tuner and also having the program you are watching in a small window in the epg , so my guess is that humax don't what any bad press with the way they have set up this firmware.

Yeah but all you have to do is program is so it checks for lnbs and if theres 2 then it does it as it is now, if theres 2 then the picture carries on as normal.

As Automan stated above, if the box only has one set of hardware to decode the data from one of the tuners into usable data for the EPG download or Audio/Video streams, then once the box has tuned into the Freesat transponder and is decoding the EPG data, then it would not be possible to display the channel you were on in the background whilst this process is happening (unless perhaps the channel you were viewing was on the same transponder, but that would provide an even more inconsistent user experience.)
The fact that in the .17 firmware that pressing OK to schedule a recording pauses the EPG download and the Audio/Video resumes immediately I think adds weight to this theory. So if it's a hardware limitation, no amount of firmware changes are going to work this limitation during EPG download. |

I've noticed now that when watching a film it asks for the pin but it never did before. Is this a side effect or new feature added with .17?
