Big Brother USA in the UK

I know E4 broadcast US BB in the past, which seasons did it broadcast and how well did it do?

Also, do you think Channel 5 would be tempted to buy it and put it on Five USA?

I know E4 broadcast Season 9 as that was the first season I watched. I think that was the season added due to the writers strike in America, and maybe that was affecting E4 programming too? (Wikipedia says that Season 4 was broadcast on E4 also).

I have no idea how many people watched, but I keep thinking that the UK should at least try switching to the US format to see if interest can pick up again, and since the US version is only three nights per week it isn't over-kill like the UK version might be, with it being on every night.

Season 4 was broadcast (with delayed live feed) and season 9. Apparently e4 didn't broadcast anymore seasons due to them clashing too much with BBUK.

I'm not sure about season 4 but season 9 averaged around 350k I believe.

www.youtube.com/bigbrotherepisodes has all the episodes, I've seen a few seasons there.

Personally I don't mind if its on UK TV or not, as many of us watch it live online on the BBUSA forum.

BB9 rated pretty badly in the UK.

But then it was BB9...

It sucks that the two seasons they aired were two of the bottom three seasons. I wonder how ratings would have been if they showed BB6 or 11.

Thanks for the info & links.

I don't think I had E4 back then, because I'm sure I would have watched it.

Delayed live feed, sounds like a cool idea.

It makes sense that with it clashing with the UK version, but they could air it after the UK series has finished. There's a chance of spoilers but unlikely unless you went looking for them.

Having said all that, I'd probably still download it and keep up that way.

Would be interesting it see how well it would do for Channel 5.

I hope 5USA pick up BBUS.

It makes so much sense. I hadn't thought about the possibility before but it could definitley work.

I had such a big surprise today. I was minding my own business when suddenly a very familiar voice came on the TV. It was Julie Chen!

I'm not sure what Channel it was on, but her Loose Womenesque show is being syndicated here. It was strangely surreal watching her on TV, instead of a computer screen!

I have been campaigning for the US show to come back but its a waste of time watching online isn't so bad, i have become used to it.

what i would hope is that we pick up the US format in the UK because currently its just a popularity show and with the general public as the final vote only a certain type of person can win it.

They aren't allowed to speak about the game nominations evictions or any type of strategy so we basically just watch them living in a house going crazy. pretty poor television to be honest

BB UK needs to change to the US format at least do a trail run for 8 weeks or something.

The US format is already better then the UK one anyway.

Endomol have become very territorial over recent years, hence the geo-blocking of the live feeds in the U.S and U.K (season 11 anyway). I doubt they would allow CBS to sell the show into another territory these days.

Agreed. I saw some of one of the US big brother series being shown in the UK and it is better without the public choosing who goes. It'd be much more fun watching the housemates battling for veto etc in the UK and planning tactics etc. I think the only things the public got to vote for were special treats or tasks for specific housemates. UK should try this and see what happens. They did do a head of house one year in the UK but it was rubbish as the tasks were not good and there didn't seem to be any beenefit other than being immune from eviction that week.
