Picture quality on philips 32" TV

Hi I have bought a philips 32PW9525/05L Widescreen TV off a mate. The problem is the picture quality is slightly shadowey, and on screen text is also blurry and not crisp and sharp... I have tried using all 3 scart sockets with 2 different digital receivers but the same problem occurs. The menus that are built into the TV also are blurry when brought up. The picture is not that bad but it could be perfect quality, especially text and things. It is a 100hz TV and I was wondering if anyone knows how to make the picture really sharp. I have also changed settings on the digital box to RGB output etc etc but the best I can get it is still slightly off skew! An example of the picture quality would be if you set your PC's LCD monitor to 800x600 when it should be on 1024x768... you get a blurry type of image. Anyone know how to fix this TV? In the book it also says there is Eco-mode to allow for digital devices, I have set it to this mode but it still doesnt look much better. As far as I know, it is also blurry through the analogue areial. Any help would be appreciated.

not sure on this one,but just as a thought i think that model has different settings for the 100hz and possibly a 50hz setting, worth trying the different settings if they are there.it is very unusual because philips tv's are usually sharp to the point of suffering grain on poor signals.

Thanks mate, I will have a look at it tomorrow . Is there anything else within the 100hz environment that I can look into?

well the bad news is that it does sound like there is a fault there,as you are getting the problem regardless of source and picture rate.if this problem was there from the moment you bought it,i would go back to your mate and find out why he didn't tell you about it.

Sounds obvious but have you tried changing the sets picture settings such as Contrast, Brightness, Colour etc? Some sets even have a dedicated sharpness control which may help.

The problem you describe could be caused by these controls being set wrong especially the contrast (sounds like it might be too low). Use a good quality source and get a test image if you can and ajust the controls. Getting a optimal setting can take a long time on any set but well worth trying before you consider it faulty.

Yeah I have tried all the settings, brightness sharpness and all that. For example, on QVC (which I personally don't watch) around the price it looks like small water droplets, like an anti-aliasing effect that has gone wrong, and the on screen menus that are built into the tv are also not sharp and crisp. People have said that the picture looks fine but there is definitely something shadowey about it. It might be just me but the text is definitely not what I would expect from a TV of this specification? I have also reset it to factory settings but still no luck. I personally dont think there is anything wrong with the TV and there must be some sort of engineer settings menu I can access.. Is there such a menu?

Might be an obvious one....but have you plugged the SKY box into an RGB capable socket on the tv?
Is there anything in your tvs menu that lets you configure the scarts?
(Some sets have a choice of S-Video or RGB)
