Hey everyone,

Just wonderig, for those of you with an MP3/Ipod - say you put an album on your Ipod, so you have all the tracks - then the band releases one of them as a single, and that includes a re-mix version or an acoustic version of the song they've released. Do you include these on your MP3/Ipod, even though they are basically the same song but a little different?

Interested to hear some opinions!

I only get a remix or acoustic version if I like it.

There's also quite a few songs where I ONLY have a remix. Because there's quite a few songs where I love one of the remixes, but find the original quite boring.

Also, probably not so much with rock artists, but with a lot of other genres, the artists often remix a song on the album, then release the remix as the single, in which case the remix essentially becomes the "original", at least to people who aren't hardcore fans of the artists,

I only really bother getting remixes/instrumental/acoustic/live songs if they're from an artist I really love. The latter three go onto my iPod, but I usually untick all the remixes on my iTunes. Unless its a remix I really like, but that's pretty rare (I'm not really a fan of them). For instance, I've got 100+ Girls Aloud remixes on my iTunes, but I don't want to have to wade through them when I've got my iPod on shuffle, so I keep them on my iTunes only.

As for single edits, again, I only bother with them if I'm a big fan of the artist. But they usually go onto my iPod, unless they're virtually identical to the album edit, in which case I leave them off.

With a large capacity ipod I will often have the original AND the remixes, though would tend to prefer the remixes. Often I hear a remix of a song I am not fussed about but LOVE the remix so will only have that on. A recent one was Aint nobody by Claire Maguire. The album version is a bit dull, but the breakage remix is fantastic. I was always a lover of 12" singles back in the late 70's, early 80's when I would usually only play the longer remixes.

I guess I see it differently than a lot of people here. I'm not a big fan of remixes or acoustic or other alternate versions. I tend to always prefer the original version.
It just seems sort of lazy to me how a lot of artists now do so many different versions of the same song, instead of focusing on writing more new original songs. Also, I think often the more they try to rework something the worse it gets. I find that a song is rarely improved by overthinking it. I think the first version which is done with inspiration and an artist's first instinct is often the best.

If a remix is superior to the radio/album version then it's a keeper on my I-pod.
