Anyone remember them? They were an English rock band which charted once in 1985 with "Life In A Northern Town", which I heard on Absolute Radio just recently.

And I believe that song was turned into a club anthem by Dario G.

I liked this song. I have the feeling that there were more one-hit-wonders in the 80s than at most other times in musical history. That said, I only pick up a selection of current music and have been known to like songs I misperceive to be debuts, a huge case in point being Franz Ferdinand with Take Me Out.

TDA were unlucky to be one-hit wonders - their follow-up to the hit was a great song called "The Love Parade" (which I actually like/d more than "Life In A Northern Town"), and their instrumental version of The Smiths' "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" was used to lovely effect in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" (in the art gallery scene.)

Trivia fans will be pleased to hear that bandleader Nick Laird-Clowes is/was a pal of Pink Floyd's Dave Gilmour, and wrote some of the lyrics for "The Division Bell" album, and he also presented Channel 4's The Tube in its early days!

Yeah I liked that song. Huge hit in the USA as well(top 10).

Did'nt realise they only had one hit-I think I got them confused with Deacon Blue.
