I obviously don't think Nicola will disappear, due to her celebrity status, but she may not be able to hold onto her record label. I also don't believe Nicola and Nadine when they say they don't care about the sales of their records. All artists want people to listen to and buy their music and I have a feeling they both made these comments to save face because their record flopped or was about to flop. Fingers crossed Nicola's record sales pick up.
I see what you mean but I agree with the fellow poster about the type of crowd she would appeal. Polydor is a very mainstream record company so who knows if they even have a clue of how to market her to the right audience. If she gets dropped, I wouldn't be surprised that she'd find another record record deal with a smaller/indie record company who would be interested in the sound she's creating because of the credentials the album has received. Also, according to the interviews she gave, the record company had little say in the making of the album and didn't seem to expect/know the type of sound she came up with so in a way critical acclaim can be seen as a sort of compensation for them.
And she's in different situation than Amy Studt, Ms Dynamite and Siobhan Donaghy. Both Ms Dynamite and Amy Studt had initial success with their debut - Ms Dynamite's A little Deeper was her breakthrough but she stalled with Judgement Days which was much less commercial plus some troubles in her personal life at the time while Amy Studt had a few top 10/20 but couldn't deliver with her album which was pretty Avril Lavigne-lite - when it comes to Siobhan donaghy, it's another scenario. She managed to release a second alternative album after flopping miserably with a debut that was very rock/pop and accessible; the album got praised but despite the release of two singles it didn't receive much promotion as she went to join the Rent cast. In comparison with Siobhan for instance, Nicola seems to do rather well then...

Heard a preview of the studio version. Sounds interesting:-) - most of the youtube clips I found are pitched which it's annoying!? Would like to hear the full version of it. Haven't listened to the acoustic yet

Is it just me or do some of the songs on the album sound like stuff Siobhan Donaghy would have done.

Regardless, I got the album last week and think it's great.

Are they releasing it that soon?? Nicola's material would fare better in the New Year radiowise, me thinks. Xmas is an odd time of the year to release quirky music. Will try again to find it on youtube unpitched!

She won't be dropped because she is on the same label as Girls Aloud. It would be bad business if Nicola was dropped, then six months later she came back with the girls.

in my opinion cinderella's eyes should have been the 3rd single yo-yo is ok but not that commerical.
lucky day should have been the first single not beat of the drum which was too alternative sounding.

A bit embarrasing yes but she will be on two different contracts ------- One as part of GA and one as a Solo artist.

I expect they could keep her on the GA one and drop the solo one.

there is no release date set. three months is a long time to leave it until the new year. if she releases it before christmas that would be a mistake also. so i cant see how she can win with this situation.

Her levels of flopping have outdid even my own expectactions.

Her album fell from number 17 to number 72 in its second week

I'll be surprised if Fascination dont drop her before the next single release.

bringing back an old thread.

I've just bought this album this week and I'm really liking it. I don't know what took me so long to buy it because I liked BOMD as soon as I heard it.

Anyway, I was just wondering - I liked some of GA's singles but I was wondering if anyone could recommend any GA album tracks that are worth listening to that Nicola features more heavily on because I like her voice. I know GA used to share the singing but are there many songs she took the lead vocals on?

It's Magic from their Chemistry album is a solo by Nicola, as is I Say A Prayer For You from What Will The Neighbours Say?

From Out of Control, she gets quite a lot of vocals on Turn To Stone, Revolution In The Head and Rolling Back The Rivers In Time.

From Tangled Up, the Nicola heavy tracks are Girl Overboard and What You Crying For?

Besides her solos on Chemistry and WWTNS, she gets hardly any other lines in the other songs - but she gets a fair amount on Big Brother and Real Life from What Will The Neighbours Say?.

Apart from Life Got Cold on their first album she's also pretty ignored on that too.

Hope that helps! It's great Nadine's my favourite in GA, she gets the lead in 90% of all their tracks Nicola's normally in the backseat on many of their tracks though.

It's a pity more people didn't buy Cinderella's eyes!
Nadine has the voice but it shows you that just having a voice isn't enough, you have to be creative as well.

Nicky is the truly creative member of the band. And she's ginger..hard to beat!

CSweeet's recommendations are good.

Another random one that I love is "Singapore" which is from the limited edition version of their Greatest Hits album (it was cut from the Chemistry album).

You probably know Untouchable since it was a single, but if you want to, check out the live Out of Control tour video that they did. Nicola is amazing in it and the first minute and a half of the song is almost all her.

Nicola covered a Girls Aloud track called Memory Of You with just her vocals.

Yay! Glad you liked it, it's definitely my favorite GA track. Such a shame that it was their first single to miss the top 10.

There are only two live performances of Untouchable, so here's the other one if you want to see it. Sarah takes a few of Nicola's lines though.

I know other's have already mentioned it, but it's obvious the on air, on sale thing didn't work. Just imagine if she had the sort of weeks promo Cheryl has (I don't mean the press coverage, just the performance opportunities: The Voice, Jubilee, T4 special etc).

The only song I'm not sure about so far (although I've not had the album long yet) is 'Fish out of Water'
