I think it hypocritical seeing 02 'helping PAYG' customers i paid 20 pounds a month on a 18 month contract, hardly used their minutes, when i tried for a deal i was laughed at basically, now with Tesco and they will keep my business, however another phone with Orange cannot wait until i am away from them

What do you mean by "tried for a deal"? Was this before or after the contract expired?

I don't get what you mean OP. Just because you don't get the price or deal you want doesn't make a company odious.

There are plenty of networks to choose from. Go to one that gives you the best deal. People choose networks for other reasons than just cost.

I don't get how you not getting the deal you wanted means they are odious, sounds just silly to me.

All the prices and deals are on the website, when you are paying just £20 a month networks won't always be in a position to offer you a discount.

I wanted a pay as you go deal, 02 would not do such a deal the best they offered was taking 10 pounds a month from your account whether you use minutes or not, Tesco in comparison leave it up to you, and still give you extra minutes if you use their monthly plan(even then 02 still charge more for this idea).

And can you explain exactly how exactly that makes them 'odious'?

Tesco network = BT network

Any contract is really just hire purchase for your phone and your text/net/call bundle. Buy your phone and pick the payg deal to suit your needs.

No they don't. Tesco are a MVNO on the O2 network.

Lets get this straight. You think O2 are repulsive because they wont let you change to Pay and Go mid-contract? You want to change because you don't use all your minutes. You think Tesco is better because they give you more minutes, in their monthly plan, for the same cost?

Can you not see the absurdity of that!

What's an MVNO?

(google is broken )

I have a phone 'locked' to Tesco that accepts an O2 sim.

It's just a billing and marketing company that has an agreement with the 'real' network (the one who has the physical network) to resell their service.

Tesco mobile is 50% owned by O2 and 50% by Tesco
Giffgaff is 100% owned by Telefonica who owns 100% of O2.

In your first post!

You said you were in an 18month contract and not using all your minutes.

Notice 'i paid' in as after the event, why anybody would presume 'i am' in contract, is totally not what i said in my opening post.

You paid twenty pounds a month and you weren't using all your minutes so you phoned them for a better deal. In your second post you say they offered to take ten pounds off each month. That sounds to me like someone in a contract.

O2 is the old BT Cellnet, formally called Cellnet which was owned and operated by BT so not quite an inaccurate (more like out of date) statement after all.

I'm still confused here. So the OP is saying that they came to the end of their 18 month contract, realised they weren't using all their minutes, asked to change to PAYG, and got told to do one by O2? That seems like a highly unlikely turn of events, given that you can get an O2 PAYG SIM card for free from their website. I have several lying around just in case I ever need one. Now, there may have been a problem with keeping the same number but changing from contract to PAYG, which I have heard before, but that's not an O2 thing, rather all networks have trouble with this.
