Very impressive full list, thanks Shadow 2009! The 10 singles I like best are at nos 14, 28, 31, 36, 37, 45, 48, 49, 51 and 54. With the amount of X Factor hits accelerating, we could reach 100 by the end of next year or soon after!

Alexandra has the UK record for the most sales by a female solo artist. And she set the record for the most sales in 24 hours across Europe.

I do wonder why SYCO have never thought of making a 'best of' compilation album.

The "Top 200 Albums of 2005" from the sales figure archive on Haven has Steve Brookstein's Heart and Soul selling 102,000 copies that year. And I doubt he has sold 148,000 since.

IIRC, 250k was the number Syco were putting out. But asking a record exec about sales is like asking a man how big his penis is. You'll never get an honest answer.

Most of that list does seem to be right, though. Very interesting, thanks for posting!

Bad Boys did very well then. I would have expected it to reach about 500K. It was eaten up by Fight For This Love and the charity single.

Joe McElderry's Classic has to date sold 119,181 - the figure in the OP is 1 weeks sales

Jedward - Lipstick isn't on the list - pretty sure it sold more copies than Same Difference's shine on forever although maybe not many more in the UK.

Those sales above relate to the UK only. If we took international sales into consideration, Lipstick would do well on this table as it charted in 11 countries and went top 5 in four of them.

Surprised how well Rhydian has done with O Fortuna and Rhydian (his first album) - its such a shame the sales for Waves disappoint

I'm sure Ben Mills first album got to number 3 in the charts so it's clearly sold more than 500 copies, so why isn't it on the list?

Very interesting indeed - especially the album sales. Isn't there a way to pin this info to keep it on the thread and then update it (mods?)

But wasn't that his winner's single which would make him the worst seller of the lot other than Brookstein.

Some of these single sales are a lot better than I'd realised - staggered that Diana sold more than Cher for her first single and that 1D are still a long way from the top (though obviously it's still selling heavily). I say this only because I had (obviously naively) thought that other than JLS and Leona, the others didn't have great sales and that the 2010 competitors would outsell them all but clearly I was wrong.

In particular I assumed 1D would beat JLS but they have to sell another 100K units to catch JLS's worst selling single.

Indeed, Eurostar—and if the chart was limited to international sales outside the UK and Eire it would be a very truncated affair, because other than Leona, Alexandra, Jedward, and JLS (?), I don't think any of these acts have sold anything.

But their single has only been out a week, and if they sign with a record label in America, their global sales will be what most will be ineterested in.
I think as Matt won the show, people will be more inerested in seeing how his next single and album performs in comparison to the other winners.

I was going to mention that - he got a gold disc so must have shifted over 100k

Yes, surely Leona Lewis would top the international sales chart. Didn't she have a no1 in America .

I wasn't saying that they wouldn't get there I'd be surprised if they don't but I was just expecting them to blow JLS out of the water I guess - and you're right if they crack the US they will. Every kid I know loves 1D whereas JLS don't seem to have the same universal appeal.

I'm not sure that winning or not makes any difference any more when the runner up acts get the same contract with the same timescales and same promotion (or better in some cases - look at Olly) but you're right no doubt people will be looking at Matt's sales with a microscope but personally I'll be happy so long as he sells enough albums for Columbia to renew his record contract.

There is no official world sales charts but I think roughly she has sold about 9m albums and 18m singles in total, so yes she'd top the non UK chart by a mile.

I'm not going to do do the sums but my gut feeling is that she has sold more than all the other X Factor acts combined(total worldwide). Somebody else can do all the hard work and show I'm wrong

Not even JLS Tommy : they've never had a hit single or album outside the UK and Ireland.

As it stands, Leona, Alexandra and Jedward are the only acts from the X Factor to have charted in Europe (and beyond).

Without a shadow of a doubt : Leona is by far the most successful international act to emerge from the X Factor UK.
