Places to sell a phone?

You'd think it would be easy to shift a Galaxy S2 but its a nightmare.

I put it on Gumtree with a nice picture and not as much as 1 phone call.

eBay it did sell for a bit less than what I'd hope but then Paypal swung into action with a stupid 21 day hold on fund, and not a hope was I posting a high value item without access to my money so refunded the guy and explained the situation, he was very understanding. Tried eBay again, exact same problems happened however this time Paypal limited my account and asked me to confirm this that and the other, so did that and they tell me the limit could not be lifted.

Next eBay got snotty

We regret to inform you that your eBay account has been suspended.

*Why did we suspend your account?

From experience we know that certain items and actions are more associated with fraudulent activity on eBay than others. As a precaution, we suspend an account if it gives us cause for concern. We then ask for more before we reinstate the account.

So I think its safe to say eBay is a lost cause.

Someone then recommended AVForums, so tried that however it has trader ratings and newbies with no rating are encouraged to go through eBay But put that ad on anyway and no interest.

So I can only think of 2 options, Envirofone will give me £185 for a £499 item, Cex will give £200

Any suggestions? Surly it shouldn't be this complicated, its a phone not a child I'm trying to sell.

Why not try selling it via the local community board in you local Morrisons or other supermarket board. I sold two bikes this way and got £50 more than was offered from cash generator.

What mobile forums has a decent classified section but you have to have made so many posts to get access to it I think.

Another poster suggested amazon which can be good (there was a time ages ago when I bought cheap phones on eBay and sold them on for a profit on amazon so you tend to get good prices). I believe again that they will hold funds for a while for new sellers though

I use Amazon Marketplace quite a lot for selling stuff . They have never held the money (Unless there is a dispute! Which is obvious!) . But it does takes 6 days to reach your account once you have withdrawn your money to your chosen bank account.

I tend to find Amazon a better place than Ebay. Also you could try Ebid.co.uk . They also sell mobile and have there own payment methods too. Ebid is not as popular as ebay for sure. But i ave made quite a few sales on there too and there fees are reasonable.

EDIT - I have just checked Amazon for you and the cheapest USED mobile was £299.99 . So if you put yours on for £289.99 you will receive £259.83 from Amazon after fees.

Hope this helps

In the end i've had to give up. No interest from Gumtree, Preloved, AV Forums. Yes there is places like Play or Amazon but I wanna get what the phone is worth.

EDIT the Amazon fee's seem exactly the same as eBay £10 for every hundred or so.

If you are on facebook search for a "sale or swap" group in your area.

Ebay, and insist on a 100% positive, 50 + buys and an advance confirmed address.
Of course your own ebay record needs to be good too.

Ebay seems to be a merry go round for faulty iPhones so something nearly new and under warranty should shift easily.

The Ebay 21 day rule is there to protect buyers from dodgy sellers. You will get the best price for it here as well. Although I believe you are genuine your actions would seem suspicious to them - it would look like you would want to take the money and run.

Got to say that I have sold a few things up to about £150 in value without an issue except for the time I sold to a Polish twonk so now I will only sell to UK residents or BFPO. Luckily I have access to my firms intranet market place were there are 8000 prospective buyers so I only use Ebay to get the best price.

Does craigslist have a phones section? or is it all about prostitutes these days?

eBay is the only way to go I think but unfortunately for a newbie this isn't an option, I tried opening another account but was no sooner opened until I was no longer a registered user, I can see why they do this, sadly a few wreck it for the rest of us so don't blame eBay.

Hotukdeals.

http://www.hotukdeals.com/mobiles/fo...rade/discussed

Sold a few things on there and they seem good. But as with all places like this, zero feedback users will be required to send the item first but make sure when you sell it, its to a seasoned buyer/seller with more than 10 feedback.

Yeah ran into that on AVForums, send the phone first. Sadly not gonna happen, maybe an old Nokia 3310 or something no problems, not a SGS2

I did it with my Desire HD on hotukdeals a month or so ago. Everything went fine. Just make sure you get their home number and address. Call the home number first to make sure its them then send it special delivery which is £5.50.

Honestly, its gonna be the only way to get a decent price for the phone.

How come your selling it anyway? Didn't you just not long get it?
