Day of the Giant Pink Metal-Eating Balls!
Hoping that someone can help me with this suddenly-ressurected mind-worm.
As I'm 54, we're probably talking a mid 60's comic here, but I can vividly remember an on-going British strip, in colour, which was about these spherical pink sponges, probably from space, which just used to roll around hoovering up metal. The more metal they absorbed, the bigger they got. The story, as I remember it, was about a group of people trying to keep away from these things and deal with the rapidly disintegrating (literally!) society. A bit like Day of the Triffids, then. I used to get TV21, but I've still got some of those and I'm pretty sure it wasn't in that, I think I used to catch it in someone else's comic. The images in my mind seem to be of the fairly detailed Frank Hampson/ Frank Bellamy kind like we don't get any more. I can't find any reference to this, but then as I don't know what it was called or what comic it was in that's hardly surprising. ![]() Anyone got any suggestions? |

The Iron Eaters An extra terrestrial invasion of Earth by pink sponge-like creatures which ate iron and other metals. from Topper. I can't tell you which issues unfortunately. The UK comic price guide may help. |

The Iron Eaters!
Absolutely, well done guys and thanks. Knew I hadn't imagined it. Quite a creepy idea, I reckon. Have to try and track some more down now! |
