How long will the iPhone 5 queues be?

With the 4S supposedly launching and the fact that Apple has supposedly actually designing their very first chip (not using a rebadged Samsung) it is possible there is no Iphone 5 till 2012.

So will there be queues for the new cheaper iPhone and/or a bigger screened one?

I'd say there'll be queues if Apple want there to be queues. Anyone disagree?

Although the "A4" was, AFAIK, basically a Samsung/Intrinsity "Hummingbird" ARM Cortex-A8 with an SGX535 instead of an SGX540 like the first Galaxy S, I thought that the "A5" (the Cortex-A9 / SGX543 SoC in the iPad 2 and presumably the next iPhone) was actually designed by Apple?

I think the rabid "Apple fanboys" have all pretty much been banned by now.

Plenty of rabid "Apple haters" left though.

I don't see "sheep" comments about anything else.

God I hope so. If I receive a single email from Guru James spoon feeding me information I already know I will not be held responsible for my actions!!

I haven't ever seen a 'hater'. God i hate that word....Yet another yank saying.

What i do see is people who aren't taken in by apples marketing who actually see other sides of an argument instead of only apples side.

Having had an iPhone for years (which I did like and enjoy) and now having moved to an SGS2, I like to believe that it means I am free thinking and will make up my own mind based on whatever is out there as I require the technology. I don't understand anyone who says that one OS is any better than another OS. I've met iPhone evangelists who have never even used an Android phone, just because it's not Apple, they then proceed to tell you why it's no good. The same with some Android users, although a lot of them fall into the category of not being able to afford an iPhone.I don't think I would trust anyone's opinion unless they were speaking from experience (I don't mean a 10 minute twiddle in a phone shop).
One thing is certain....I wouldn't queue for anything!

This is something that bugs me. An iphone isn't any more expensive than any other top of the range phone. Mind you, the iphone is now essentially a mid range phone now. On Contracts its either free or up to £100 so its not really out of anyone's range.

One thing i would say is its expensive for what it is. I still cant believe the iphone 4 is more expensive to buy than my Galaxy S2!! Beggers belief really.

The 'cant afford' comments annoys me to. It may well have been true in the past. It certainly hasnt been for a good couple of years now. Even in the tablet market, there are android tablets that cost as much as the ipad2.

I do agree, the apple equipment is expensive for what it is.

I witnessed something first hand yesterday that did impress me about apple. A friends gf dropped her 3 week old iphone4 causing the screen to crack (I thought gorilla glass was meant to be tough?). My mate and I went down to the apple store at lunch. He had an appointment booked with a 'genius' (that provided quite a bit of amusement for me). He explained he dropped the phone and it cracked. With a minimum of fuss, they gave him a brand new phone there and then. Although the phone was in his gfs name, he managed to sign his name for it (not very secure). All in all very good service.

You see, that's just the sort of derogatory comment that always gets on peoples' wick. Preferring Apple's products doesn't mean you've been "taken in by their marketing".

For instance, I've been a Mac user a very long time. I prefer the way the Mac interface works over other alternatives, always have. So when it came to an MP3 player I bought an iPod, mostly because everything else at the time was hell-bent on adopting DRMd WMA which Microsoft were refusing to release on anything other than Windows. The iPod worked best with my Mac, so that's what I bought.

I bought an iPhone 3Gs eventually because my iPod needed replacing and I was used to iTunes and happy to carry on using it. DRM was thankfully gone by that point so I could have moved, but chose not to. My next phone will also be an iPhone.

This, to many people, marks me out as an Apple fanboy or iSheep. In reality I simply can't be bothered to battle with my personal tech stuff when there's an option, albeit a more expensive one, that means I don't have to. To me I'd rather just pay the extra and get on with life.

And its the bit where apple users think we other users have to 'battle' with tech when its absolutely not true that pisses me off.

I in fact have never seen an ounce of proof of this at all having been an iphone 4 user, an imac users and now on to Android and Windows. If you can of course show me any different i would love to see it.

I turn my laptop on and use it hassle free. I turn my Android phone on and use it hassle free. What exactly do i battle with?

Dont think the iphone 4 does use gorilla glass.

I dropped my iphone 4 and the screen and the back glass cracked. It was replaced. I dropped my Galaxy S2 in pretty much the same manner and nothing. Not a mark. The S2 uses gorilla glass.

I never said you had to battle with anything. I was specifically referring to myself. If you are happy with the way your technology works together then I couldn't be more pleased for you.

Right that's fine, but, i'm still unsure what you mean about this battle bit. I've seen this from many apple users and just wondering if its just more crap trotted out like 'it just works'?

You're putting the wrong emphasis on my post. My main point was that I'd rather buy the Apple stuff to ensure I don't have to expend any effort. In the past buying other Apple stuff to work with my existing Apple stuff has guaranteed the path of least resistance, although I'll admit it's a lot better than it used to be. Until that changes I'll stick with Apple. That doesn't make me Steve Jobs' bitch, it means I'm a lazy arse who doesn't see any of this a particularly high priority.

Just googled 'iphone4 gorilla glass', there seem to be quite a few articles that say the iphone4 uses gorilla glass. So a bit confused now.

Maybe hes on about the fact that apple lock everything down. Thus the user can not change something that might cause problems.

With windows and android, you get a lot more freedom, thus changing something that you dont know much about might cause problems.

Not at all. More that I have confidence that the Apple stuff I want to keep will work with optional Apple stuff I could ditch if I so wanted. I simply view life as too full of other distractions to care about this particular one.

Neither Apple nor Corning have ever said that the iPhone 4 has Gorilla Glass, people have just assumed. From what I've heard, it's not Gorilla Glass, rather a similar hardened glass with scratch resistant coating. The problem is that the glass is completely exposed on the iPhone 4, even raised above the level of the metal edging, which means any impact will be directly onto the glass and not on the casing. I think this is what causes the majority of breakages.

It's going to be another over-hyped and under-powered device. Samsung and HTC will upstage it yet again with the SGS3 and the Pyramid.

And that's without considering the Nexus Prime. The iPhone 5 will have to be a significant upgrade for it to compete.

It will compete. Not necessarily in terms of raw specs, but it will sell by the bucketload anyway. If nothing else there's quite the backlog of out of contract 3Gs owners waiting to upgrade.

The iPhone 5 will have to have improved specs if it wants to compete in the tiny segment of the market (which is well represented here) which actually care about phone specs.

The iPhone 5 will just sell to ordinary people who don't know their ROM from their RAM or mHz from gHz (i.e. the majority of users).

Indeed. Many people will see that it's x amount faster than an iPhone 4 and that will be that. The specs on models from HTC, Samsung etc. won't even register.

Yeah, marketing 'Be special, buy yourself the same phone like everybody else' will still work for many. Although the way they sue every phone manufacturer it's a miracle they actually have time to do anything else
