Songs that don't make sense or have frustratingly simple lyrics but were still succesful?

I can think of quite a lot!

The Saturdays - All Fired Up (don't really know what it's about)
Katy Perry - Teenage Dream (chorus kind of lyrically lazy)
Rebecca Black - Friday (she didn't really write it though)
Lil Wayne songs!

I think Just Dance's lyrics are awful but it's such a great song though to dance and sing to that you kinds forget the lyrics are bad.

Diana Vickers - My Wicked Heart...I can't understand a word she says in that song, and when I do all I get is 'honey bee whoopsy daisy'...okkkk

Swagger Jagger by Cher Lloyd is another pitiful example...I'm almost certain that 'swagger jagger' is not a known term of any kind. And then there's the random 'get on the floor' like she's trying to rob a bank or something...no.

The Saturdays - All Fired Up...we're all animal is a dreadful lyric, as is 'now everyday ain't gonna be no picnic' from Cheryl's Fight For This Love, which is actually suggesting that everyday is a picnic due to the double negative

Don't blame the song because you couldn't comprehend its nuanced poetry and Nabokovian wordplay.

Lady Gaga - Born This Way
False. The middle eight rap breakdown is the Pop Moment of 2011. You're on the wrong track, baby, you born this way.

Worst lyrics: "barbies on the barbeque/that was such an epic fail." No.

Duran Duran - "I Take the Dice". DD fans will know what I'm on about when I ask how one's head can be full of chopstick.

Wham! - "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go" - everything, just everything.

Yeah I really like All Fired Up bug that "we're all animal" lyric always makes me cringe. The fact that Mollie is singing it too with zero conviction makes it even worse.

I've seen a few interviews and he seems like a lovely guy...but seriously?

Pass Out has some terrible lyrics.

"Would you risk it for a chocolate biscuit", anyone?...

That said, I would love to be in a big crowd whilst he's performing that. It's a real jump around song

Like Nicki, Tinie is also a good songwriter. They're underrated actually imo. People like Adele and Lady Gaga are hailed as good songwriters (which, sure, they are), but when you look at their lyrics written down and compare them to the likes of Nicki and Tinie, you suddenly get a different picture.

That's biscuit line is in Frisky, not Pass Out (although I can undestand you getting the songs mixed up, since they do sound very similar, in all fairness ).

That line wasn't supposed to be serious though. It was supposed to be amusing (which it is, to me), and memorable (which again it is, since we remember it 18 months after the song came out). The point was also to rhyme "risk it" with "biscuit" (Eminem did this in 8 Mile). That's another thing about Tinie, Nicki, etc. They make all their lyrics rhyme. You look at some of the lyrics by other artists, and they don't bother with rhyming very much.

Rebecca Black didn't write it? If somenody older did, that is even more shameful.

Most of the Black eyed peas songs nowadays

Whilst I love this song I agree about the lyrics, they are inaudible.

'Whoop! Cazzy gar got feline! Whoo-pah! Herry go again, Whoops! Noah eight fur key pain, Whoo-pah! Earwig ow again!'

Yes, Diana really needs help with her diction. It's beyond terrible.

LOL this made me chuckle, as my lyrics to that song are on the same lines.

On the subject of Duran Duran:

"I smell like I sound. I'm lost and I'm found
And I'm hungry like the wolf"

How can anybody smell like they sound????

Wretch 32 - Traktor
As much as I love the song the lyrics make me cringe a little, especially the Jeremy Kyle line.

Busted - Year 3000
I hated these with a passion, I used to read all over people saying how talented James Bourne was at writing songs, when it was always just a case of finding words that rhyme with others. Your great-great-great granddaughter is pretty fine - so each generation took about 333 years or so to breed? I could rabbit on forever about Busted's lyrics in several other songs but I won't bother.

Ultrabeat - Better Than Life
Turning away, makes it alright
Not looking, its out of sight,
Blinded by a dream, looking so real,
Seeing a sign, makes me wana feel...

Better than life
Feelin alright,
Better than life
Seeing what might,
Better than life
Its only a picture
Better than life
I know its so still...

I don't know if this song is even about anything. Same with Busted, Ultrabeat have a lot of really cheesy lyrics that you can tell were thought up within minutes to go with the music.

Ultrabeat - Starry Eyed Girl
...these lyrics also make me LOL

Girl, when I look into your eyes
I can see them gazing back at mine so nice, so nice
And when I hold you close to me
I get this fever running down my spine so nice, so nice

Lol this video makes me laugh. I still have no idea what the song is about

You're delusional you're delusional yeah you're losing your mind. The lyrics to Swagger Jagger, and that awful 'get on the floor' line makes her sound like she's making a pathetic attempt at robbing a bank. The worst song and lyrics of the whole year imo.

I'd be more impressed by a new Mr. Blobby single.
