I'm not sure how much of an indicator the US ratings for a show are for its UK success (I'm not dismissing the point I really don't know if that's any kind of indication). It is however worth mentioning that whilst neither Parks & Rec or Community have large total viewer bases they both skew young and Parks in particular has a very healthy 'upmarket' 18-34 skew. As I think I mentioned earlier in the thread if I'm remembering rightly the average audience income for Parks & Rec and 30 Rock are some of the highest on US television. My point here being that they wouldn't really need to be huge audience pullers partly because Five should be able to get them reasonably cheaply and partly because their audience profile elsewhere makes them desirable shows for advertisers.
I'd also point out that Five don't have unlimited funds and at this stage I suspect they could get Community, Parks & Rec and probably Up All Night for a similar price to what they'd have to pay for Big Bang Theory alone (because there's noway C4 let that go without a fight). The key agenda for Five right now shouldn't be buying in pre-established hits but buying in shows that will get the audience and critics talking about them in a positive way. That's particularly true if they want to attract a younger audience. Five are in a position where they have to buy smart.

I'll point out a few things here.
It is incredibly annoying how defensive (some) people get about The X Factor's ratings. Obviously it is still pulling in very impressive audiences but the fact that its down noticeably from the past two years and is on course to have a series average that will be noticeably below the past two series of the show is newsworthy. And there's really no way to say The X Factor dropped 1 million+ viewers vs. last year in a positive way. Whether or not you care to admit it that is a cause of concern for ITV.
Secondly I would suggest the fact that you're having an 'if you add +1 figures...' conversation is a pretty good indicator that the show isn't as strong as it once was.
At this stage the major problem The X Factor has is the general lack of interest in this years contestants. In previous years the interest levels in the finalists has been obsessive but this year all of them have just slipped under the radar a little. If you look at someone like Kitty for example they were clearly hoping she would provoke similar reactions to Katie last year but it hasn't really worked. That the whole series has so far played out like a greatest hits of The X Factor collection doesn't help. You can see that contestants have been selected because they're a bit like previous contestant x.
On a more specific note I think the twist was a pretty big failure. It didn't make for particularly dramatic or compelling television and nothing about the results that came from it were shocking or unexpected. I suspect the whole thing would have worked much better if there had been a public vote to produce a bottom two in each category. That would have at least provided the possibility for some surprising results.

Middle of the pack for the new crop of daytime shows sold into syndication this season. Moving toward the lower end in general for daytime talk shows as a whole though. So not a disaster but not spectacularly well either. I suspect he's probably cheap enough that it'll keep going for sometime though.
