Expected for Glee, Its on its 3rd season and many become bored during series 2, with the 3 main stars all leaving this year and facing TXFUSA on a FTA channel i'm hardly shocked. Probably hit a million through catchup

Not a Glee fan but lets see how it rates in the officials before declaring it a disaster. Sky1 programmes tend to timeshift much better than most. Anyone know how Celebrity Juice did against Big Brother?

7 weeks to go yet . May not have beaten head to head but more still watched. Its pretty embarrassing on any account for a low budget digital show to get more viewers than Channel 5's flagship show that they paid extortionate amount for the rights to.

It was barely up on last week despite the healthy lead-in from X Factor USA. Looks like all that crude unfunny humour was a bit of a turnoff for some viewers. In comparison, BB grew over 100% on its lead-in.

If I was a BB fan (not many of those left!), I wouldnt be celebrating too much. Stuck in a rut between 1m and 1.3m across 6 nights with the forlone hope of getting close to 2m on Friday nights, although X Factor USA may derail that tonight.

Meanwhile its killing everything placed around it on the schedule more effectively than double strength path clear does on stubborn weeds.

Increasing 100% is more about how badly the 9pm show did than how good BB is doing. GeorgeS sums the situation up in a nutshell. I really don't understand how you can continue to spin the BB figures into a positive even though until it moved to Channel 5, BB never fell below 1.5m in its 11 year history and even then it only hit that figure on the odd Saturday. Now its lucky if it goes above 1.5m! Channel 5 wanted 2m a night from Big Brother and its far off that mark. Its a flop.

Bit of a quiet night on the terrestrials yesterday. I suppose EastEnders did well with the almost 40% share, while Corrie continues to struggle on Thursdays with that rating down from the random Wednesday rating the night before. A 0.7m drop for Billy Connolly's show, slightly more than I thought it'd fall as it had a steady breakdown last week, but 4.7m is still a strong rating for a factual show in that slot.

Channel 5 was hurt had last night from the strong competition, it seems. Not just the very poor performance of the 9pm show but at 8pm they failed to get 1m and Big Brother got its lowest weeknight 10-11pm rating of the series so far. With a primetime share of just 3.7%, it's the lowest they've had since BB came to the channel and ITV2 must've run them close (or even sneaked ahead) by that measure.

Good start for XFUSA on ITV2 last night but if it follows the same pattern as Idol usually did, it could be rating half that in a few weeks' time. Still, it's going to be a useful show for the channel, pulling up their shares. As for Glee, that debuted low but I wouldn't say it's a disaster yet as it may well double in the consolidated figures. Sure, it's down from what E4 used to get, but E4 generally picks up bigger audiences than Sky 1. I think they will be disappointed though that it wasn't even that close to how Trollied debuted in that slot just a few weeks ago.

Oh, please. A few of the crime dramas, specifically Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order: Criminal Intent have struggled outside their usual timeslots. Can you give me any other examples of titles that have been affected to justify your claim that it is "killing everything placed around it" ?

I reckon The Bachelor is doing at least 20% better than it would otherwise be doing, so it's producing mixed results.

Did it? Surely last Thursday's was the lowest?

Last week it was in a 10.10-11.10pm slot which put it at a disadvantage compared to usual as viewers had the opportunity to watch programmes on other channels from 10pm before BB began. In terms of a 10pm start and 11pm finish, it was BB's lowest overnight rating this series so far.

Killing both CSI and L&O franchises to given The Batchelor a leg up to get above 1M is good? Even on a very weak night for everyone else, CSI Miami seems to be well down on last year.

I've noticed CSI Miami's been quite a bit down from last year. But it's still in the same Tuesday 9pm slot as it's always been in. So why do you think BB's affecting its ratings? I think the crime drama opposition (The Body Farm) is probably the main reason why it's rating low this year, as well as viewer fatigue of the show after all these years.

I'm not spinning anything. It's been a disappointment for sure but I don't think it's the disaster some on here want to make it out to be. Not at its current level anyway. It will be back next year for sure and it will probably do better numbers. The key is getting the launch right, and Channel 5 overestimated how much appetite there would be for another series of the "normal" version straight after a celebrity run.

I'm quite relaxed about the whole thing really. Apart from the anomalous sub-1m rating which was brought about by a set of unfortunate circumstances, it's not showing any signs that it could be a real embarrassment by the end of the 9 weeks. I think it will continue to chug along at a similar level to where it is now and Channel 5 will learn from what went wrong and build upon it next year.

Whilst they are far from dead, the CSIs have been trending down for some time. In any case, Miami launched low for its standards in July before Big Brother arrived on the scene so any indication there is a link is disingenuous at best.

Probably there is a Body Farm impact too, but it cant be the first time it has clashed with a crime drama - IIRC ITV ran Taggart there last year?

I just think mucking around with Five's core offering is confusing viewers. Like it or not the core offering up to recently was a doc or factual, followed by a US crime procedural or a film, with ocassional football.

Its very different to the reality and celeb shows that Five is turning to now. Switching from an older male demo to a younger female targeted demo was always going to be tricky.

Disappointing (but not disastrous) for Glee on Sky1. It will probably top a million in the officials but I think the show is affected by three factors; what I think was poor scheduling putting it up against XF USA which regardless of promotion was always going to be a big hit for ITV2, the obvious fact that E4 is in more homes than Sky 1 and perhaps the biggest factor of all that Glee has not evolved at all since the first series. In fact Glee's decline probably set in half way through it's first series. It lost its way remarkably quickly - the producers got caught up in the hype.

I expect the overnight figures for An Idiot Abroad to be pretty subdued aswell because of the Friday night scheduling but it should time shift to well over a million. Would also be nice to see them give Modern Family a bigger push,as illustrated the U.S figures it is on the top of its game

With all the marketing money spent on it, I think it was a pretty disastrous overnight figure. I doubt it's something which got people flocking to subscribe either as a lot of people are saying the show went downhill in Season 2.

On the positive side I do think Sky1 is trending in the right direction overall, when it's not needlessly pinching big terrestrial US shows that are past their peak. Saw a clip of An Idiot Abroad 2 on The Wright Stuff this morning and it looked genuinely hilarious. I think they should continue to build on the homegrown content as that's where they appear to be enjoying the most success at the moment, as well as things like the comedy block on Fridays which looks more like something I'd expect to see from Channel 4.

Ah right, I see what you're saying re: BB possibly alienating some of C5's core audience.

Spot on. I'm no a regular viewer (the odd episode every now and again) but I watched the S3 premiere last night and it struck me that the plot just seemed a re-hashed version of every other episode I've ever seen. Some talk about dreams, an effort to recruit new members and and some Sue Sylvester scheme to shut down the Glee club (only this time, she's running for office!!). They're such well worn stories, it's like watching Tom and Jerry.

I can see why people are switching off. Looks like another case of a 22 episode US broadcast season overcooking the pudding. You can't help but think the show would have so much more longevity if it just came in 13 episode blasts.

It depends how you're classing longevity. 13 episode seasons might potentially keep Glee on the air for more years but it would likely end with a similar episode count. I don't think the writing or the format would become stronger with fewer episodes person season it would just take more seasons for people to notice.

In general though anyone who has even a passing familiarity with the work of Ryan Murphy shouldn't be surprised with the way things have gone for Glee. This is the same path that exactly every Ryan Murphy series follows. A great premise with great opening episodes and then the whole thing just falls apart.

Going back to Wednesday:

Between 7-9.30pm, BBC1 nationally averaged 3.92m (17.4%). In Scotland when the match was airing between those times, BBC1 Scotland averaged 421k (21.7%).

So in Scotland, BBC1 rated about 5 share points higher than the national average (once you factor in that national average is inflated by BBC1 Scotland) during that match period. During the Waterloo Road time-period (7.30-8.30pm), BBC1 Scotland had about 5-6 share points more than the rest of the UK. It's not that major of a boost, but it probably lifted the BBC1 national overnights for Waterloo Road and Planet Dinosaur by about 0.1-0.2m.

Between 9-10pm, BBC1 Scotland (with a mixture of football and Planet Dinosaur) averaged just a 12.9% share compared to the national share of 16.5%. So that probably dented WDYTYA by about 0.1m lower than what it would've got otherwise had BBC1S shown it.
