Not quite sure about the obits for Glee, TBH, most fans who watched the show (not that many admittedly), did think it was an improvement on the patchy series two. Has a whole new writing team including Marti Noxon, and "Chucks" Ali Adler.

May not work, but they do seem to have set-up this season for a more consistent story-arc, rather then the bittiness of Season 2. Also addressing that the last series wasn't too hot, three writers really can't carry this type of show for long.

Edit: and Mad Dogs did get every much as much hype, that bloody advert in the swimming pool, did my nut in, it was on for seemingly years.

Worth remembering that fans of Heroes were saying the same thing after the first episodes of its third season and we all know how that went...

Yep, I'll agree about the fandom theory, which is why I haven't mentioned it before, but it's still better then them saying it's still shit like season 2.

Did they have a whole new writing team though? You made the point about Murphy's shows turning to rubbish, but thankfully he's not much involved in this season, except making typically trollish comments to the press.

Nothing hugely surprising in any of that apart from the prediction that X Factor will win the night. If that turns out to be true than Big Bang Theory, Person of Interest and Grey's have all underperformed (arguably The Office as well) especially if he's talking modest declines for The X Factor.

Although he's talking early households which aren't always the greatest indicator.

"CBS just does its thing."

That's what I like to hear.

Hopefully The Mentalist got off to a strong start after that jaw-dropping Season 3 finale.

The more I think about it the more I can't see how The X Factor can be down vs. Wednesday and win the night...

EDIT - Reading it again he's talking network averages for the night by the look of it which makes more sense but I'm still not entirely convinced about.

Maybe he means XF won out of the new shows (not including the returning shows)? I'd be surprised if BBT came in under a 4.0 which would probably be enough for it to beat TXF.

Yeah I'm not entirely sure what he's talking about there. But even if he's only talking new shows that would mean Person of Interest has under performed for CBS.

As I said above I think he's talking network averages for the night but even that doesn't make a huge amount of sense unless Charlie's Angels really bombed on ABC (two-hour Grey's should have been above a 4 with relative ease) and both The Mentalist and Person of Interest were less than stellar for CBS.

So did the X Factor USA Fall below 10m last night. I Watched the first episode on ITV 2 And it was awful

8.7/13 HH for Persons of Interest: similar to the HH rating which TXF had the previous night, must be somewhere around the 12-14m mark.

Not sure yet, the proper US ratings won't be released for another 2-3 hours. The info above is based on early household data, which as AlexIR says isn't always the best indicator.

Which makes me wonder about this X Factor winning the night thing...

Just seen TXF had a 8.3 HH rating yesterday, about 5% down from the 8.7 it had for the premiere. That most likely suggests it had more than 10m viewers.

So now the question is will that skew younger than the average CBS show? If not and we're looking at 12-14 million viewers that'll be a low-mid 3 in the demo on CBS.

And looking at those households X Factor had an 8.3 for the night vs. an 8.9 on CBS so looks like Fox/X Factor will win the night in the demo. Unless young viewers deserted The X Factor last night.

Big Bang Theory had a 9.6 in the 8PM hour. I'm guessing it'll break a 5 in the demo with ease. The fantastic season for comedy continues (unless it airs on NBC).

So is it Likely that X Factor got less then the Voice's Second Episode if it had a 8.3?? Don't know much about US TV Ratings so sorry for asking

The second episode of The Voice was up on the first episode so The X Factor needed to grow substantially if it was going to beat it (in the demo at least). From the looks of things it hasn't done that. At this point it may very well be a struggle for the season average of The X Factor to beat the first season average of The Voice which will be disappointing for all involved.

Should be said, US don't care much about how many millions watch, they're all about the demo. The ages of people watching, because it's all about ad revenue.

Changes with subscription channels obviously.

Although according to Kevin O'Sullivan this morning Cowell has been quoted at some point saying he'd be very disappointed with anything less than 20 million!

Its a weird thing. Press releases and the like all tend to focus on total viewers but in the grand scheme of things they mean very little. Advertisers pay for the demo numbers which makes them important in determining what does and doesn't survive.

Interesting that he used the word 'buzz' because despite all the promo and the special previews, there doesn't seem to be much buzz around XF USA - not yet anyway.

A slow night last night. Interestingly, warmer temperatures are forecast for the weekend which may send ratings down a touch. I think the Corrie rating really proves how much it is better in the Wednesday slot, rating several share points higher in that slot.

X Factor USA started well, I think it'll do better than American Idol and will benefit from the UK show airing at the same time as well. Poor on initial indication for Glee, however it may timeshift a lot, so who knows.
