Junior Masterchef looks low - maybe TEN are in danger of over exposing the brand?
Thanks for the replies - I guess that makes sense though I wish the Super Bowl lead in would be used on new programming...or would there be too much of a risk of losing loads of viewers? But I think NBC's idea is that The Voice effectively is a new show. FOX are airing the American Idol premiere after the AFC Championship match - that usually gets around 50m. So Idol should have a big start this year. |

CBS used it as a lead-in to the series premiere of Undercover Boss and got the highest ratings since Grey's Anatomy (maybe even higher? Definitely 37m/38m).
But I think NBC's idea is that The Voice effectively is a new show. FOX are airing the American Idol premiere after the NFC Championship match - that usually gets around 50m. So Idol should have a big start this year. Thinking ahead, I wonder what show CBS will air when they air the Superbowl in 2013? I would think it'll be a comedy and if 2 Broke Girls hold up then I think that would be the show to get the post SB slot or The Big Bang Theory. |

So Idol should have a big start this year. NBC's decision to air The Voice is a good one though. Firstly its good for their bottom line - The Voice will command much higher ad rates than anything else they have on their schedule. Secondly they're hopeful that a Super Bowl lead-in can help boost the show up to Idol like levels for season two. Thirdly the second audition show will air the following night which keeps the momentum rolling and provides a strong boost for Smash debuting right after it. And finally reality tends to do pretty well in the slot - Undercover Boss did 38 million in 2010, Survivor: All Stars did 33 million in '04 and the second season of Survivor did 45 million in '01. They should be in for a good night particularly if they can get the show on air before 10:15. Quote:

I agree! One thing interests me though. The "official" ratings on the website discount the "ads" and "promos" and so are, IIUC, averages for the shows themselves, which is good from "our" POV. But, do the subscribers get the "just the ads and promos" broken out as a separate statistic and, if they do, just once in a while, it would be interesting to see those numbers for something like TXF or BGT etc. Would that be something you could possibly reveal?
K In terms of what you are after, are you wanting to know the break average audience within TXF etc (basically seeing how many people switch over?) or was it something more specific? The holy grail is stopping people from switching over, as commercial airtime is traded on the impacts on those commercials. In America they are doing interesting things by having special 'progamme' content within the commercials, see here regarding Doctor Who on BBC America. http://adage.com/article/mediaworks/...doctor/229500/ The results have been staggering in terms of keeping viewers watching the commercials during that content. |

Doc Martin down a bit with 8.6m (8.8m inc +1).
Underwhelming start for Exposure, with 1.2m (9.9% share). What must be a record low for Panorama....1.7m (7%) ![]() And Daybreak back down to 600k ![]()

It sounded like she was announcing a nice, comforting episode of The Royal or a guest appearance by Gerry Adams on X Factor.... |

Television dramas should be targeted at the over-40s because they “don’t have a life and don’t go out”, according to Philip Glenister.

Big Brother stayed popular on Channel 5, attracting 1.44m (8.2%) in the 10pm hour, before Big Brother's Bit On The Side entertained 615k (6.9%) from 11pm.
Up week-on-week for the third night in a row.

It finished at 7.15am to make way for Rugby yesterday. Is the 600k the slot average to 8.30?

What was last night's Panorama about to tank so catastrophically?
That must be its worst ever audience, and a near record low for BBC1 primetime too. For a show that once got 23m viewers, that's a real low point....

That is a horrible night for BBC1.
And BBC3 for that matter. The Jono documentary must be a disappointment for them although didn't the previous documentary with him air as part of a special season of shows? This one feels a little more isolated in the schedule. For the life me I can't understand why the BBC are airing a late night repeat of a Question of Sport. Is there really nothing else they can think of for that slot? Although in their defence it does perform well so... |
