I think they have Champions League again next year so that might cover about 15 Tuesdays a year. Then they have to worry about the other 37 weeks. When the Olympics is on BBC next year they would be as well to show the test card and save money!

Great for British Bake Off! I hope it stays on BBC2 rather than move to BBC1 and get the inevitable "celebrity" version. It's much better seeing "normal" people really getting a chance to do these kinds of shows.

Last year there was a repeat run of GBBO on BBC1 in daytime, which seems sensible. And there's plenty of scope for different edited versions of the show (a la Coast ) to be used at different times.

Celebrity Masterchef would have worked better like that, rather than mangle together daytime shows to make a disappointing prime time series.

So keep GBBO on BBC2 as the anchor show for the night, repeat run on BBC1 daytime (perhaps edited or expanded versions ) and the cooking history sections as ten minute fillers. Good value for money without the Come Dine With Me effect.

Holby on only 4.99, representing the sheer poor quality of the show at the moment IMO. Poor new characters, older characters not given enough air-time, silly plots too.

The weather and the Champions League would have had a big knock on effect last night .. so many people out and about between 6-8 enjoying the sun and my pub was packed with punters watching Champs League.

I don't think the weather had a effect on Ratings. Yes maybe the Football might but not the Weather. It's dark by 7 now so it's not like people would be at the beach.

The top 5 channels the ratings look pretty much the same as the last few weeks. so don't think the weather made a difference.

It needs to grow to be renewed. Its simply too expensive to renew at this level.

I think this drop is going to have caught ABC completely off guard. The coverage for Chaz Bono has been huge and that it hasn't translated to viewers is a surprise.

I don't know where else they could have launched it. And certainly there's nowhere that would have had much less competition.

Good night for BBC1. Body Farm is doing alright for a new drama, not exactly a big hitter but it is clearly a solid performer. We have yet to see how it copes with any kind of serious competition though. Soaps are a little on the low side but nothing major. Eastenders slightly below average share for a 19:30 episode and Holby still being dented by the Great British Bake Off. I had expected Gok Wan to dent Holby as it has done in previous years, however Gok Wan has premiered very low compared to last year so I will discount this effect.

Very nice. Perhaps this is where this year's Gok Wan viewers are.

Hollyoaks did poorly after yesterday's strong start to the week. The share is alright though. Unfortunately for Hollyoaks it looks like this late heatwave is going to push its ratings for September back into the down year-on-year territory with regards to the monthly average.

Gok Wan did very poorly compared to previous years. Seven Dwarves is doing poorly and Shameless seems to have done badly for its super-long anniversary episode.

A shame about the 8pm hour for Channel 5 yesterday as they might have won (C4/C5) primetime yesterday with Channel 4 doing so badly. Not sure if its the British Bake Off hurting the 8pm hour, perhaps worth keeping Superior Interiors on until Bake Off is finished just to give it a chance to grow. CSI Miami a bit on the low side too by recent episode standards.

With regards to ratings/heatwave. I think we will see shows prior to 8pm being dented but anything later than that is unlikely to see a significant drop at this time of year. The early evening soaps could be hit really hard though, with limited time for 9-5 workers (and others) to go outside before it gets dark. Strictly Come Dancing's 6pm on Saturday will make for an interesting breakdown. Doctor Who is probably early enough to be hit slightly as well although the X-Factor clash will be of bigger concern I suspect.

Pretty good for Body Farm. Only a drop of 50,000 from last week and an indentical share, given how the first episode was received I think everyone involved will be relieved with that figure. Add another 800,000 or more for timeshift and its very much renewable.

Is Shameless tape-checked? The episode seemed to finish more than 5 mins before the scheduled finish.

Five really should be doing better on Tuesdays. Fans of Five blame ultra competitive slots for Fives underperformance at the weekend, but Tuesday night is an open goal for them with underwhelming schedules from ITV1 and Ch 4 and the BBC offerings delivering dependable but not earth shatteringly high figures.

CSI Miami is about -30% down y-o-y in both overnights and finals. The natural sweep of back to back CSI is broken by the 10pm BB show. Fans of US crime procedurals are missing their regular 10pm fixes.

Part of Five's problem right now is that they seem to have two very different schedules awkwardly forced together. The crime procedurals and Big Brother paired together just doesn't work and it was never going to work and as a result I suspect everything is taking a hit.

What they desperately need for next year are better companion shows for Big Brother and to schedule their procedurals (as much as possible) for when Big Brother isn't on air.

This season of CSI Miami is quite weak and was down when shown in the US (death by crocodile because of a bounced cheque was last nights plot!). When you place it in the middle of the bizarre sandwich which was last nights schedule its no wonder it was over a quarter down.

Great figure for the Bake Off - it seems to have caused some damage to other 8pm offerings. Holby has been low for a few weeks now, but I suspect will recover back into the healthy mid-5m's after next week. I can't envisage a channel change myself - maybe a couple of years ago Jay Hunt would have jumped at it, but I just suspect its not Danny Cohen's sort of thing. The show itself has quite a typically quirky, BBC Two appeal.

The Body Farm did solidly enough and it looks like it might survive despite a less than enthusiastic reception. A really bad figure for Channel 5 at 8pm, though CSI and BB managed to put a bit of gloss on the night as a whole. And ITV1 was just consistently bad.

What stood out for me though were such poor figures for Channel 4 with what on paper ought to be a strong line-up. A lot of the lifestyle shows the channel relies on in that 8pm slot seem to have seen much better days, quite frankly. The Gok Wan makeover schtick is old news, the Sex Education Show's novelty soon wore off, and the endless attempts to break in a new bit of property porn or a knock-off version of Come Dine With Me have ended in failure. Rethink needed. And I could repeat what I say about Shameless every single week now…

All is explained on the BARB web site, BARB being the organisation that compiles the TV ratings
