Not a very impressive rating for a pretty competitive Champions League game last night. It's fairly obvious, looking at that, why ITV plump for Man United games whenever they can.
Not a vintage night for BBC One, either. It's probably fair to say WDYTYA - great servant as it has been - isn't particularly long for this world, anymore. Maybe another series or two, but that might be it. It's not being helped by a lacklustre schedule. Waterloo Road is doing OK at 7.30, but it leaves a really awkward slot afterwards that has caused all sorts of problems this year. Planet Dinosaur ought to be doing better than that, in all honesty.
Channel 4 enjoyed a good night with it's trusty property double which haven't gone the way of so many of their lifestyle counterparts just yet.

A shame to see The Fades drop so far given the decent reception it got. Even more dramatic fall for TOWIE - but probably expected after premiering on ITV's Super Sunday. Not sure why they feel 2 episodes a week is necessary. (Frankly, I'd live happily without any, but thats maybe asking too much…!)

Con Air has been on various channels so many times there can't be many interested viewers around who haven't seen it,almost as many times as Ice Station Zebra
No replacement listed on the bbc press office for WDYTYA, but I think it's likely to be Junior Apprentice. It's 8 episodes so if it does start on the 19th October, it will finish on the 7th December.
Disappointing number for The Fades but this Wednesday night slot still seems like a very odd night to schedule it. I suspect they would have preferred Sunday nights at 9 much like Being Human but given the huge amount of competition in that slot right now it was probably best to avoid that. Wednesday still feels like an odd night for it though.
BBC web site reports that River City is definitely not being axed as part of any cuts and reveals its weekly audience is 500,000 which strikes me as pretty high for a soap only shown in Scotland (although I have never actually seen the programme)

WDYTYA will surely live on as it is a relatively cheap docu format and 4.5 - 5.5 million is better than OK for that type of programme these days. And probably exports okay as well. The format has certainly sold to a few countries.
It obviously goes up and down with who is on the show that week and (next week's on Len Goodman will do well with the Strictly time linkage but the Tracy Emin one the week after maybe less so).
Even if it was hooked from BBC 1 I think it would survive elsewhere...with someone like Yesterday likely doing an 'ordinary folks' version to cut costs.
It even has a modified Welsh version (cut to half an hour and angled at celebs not noted for being Welsh retracing their Welsh roots - called Coming Home).
That has run for a few years now and has had some big names that WDYTYA have missed (eg Cilla Black, Paul Daniels and Olivia Newton John)
(Though missed is not really the right word as WDYTYA focuses on covering new angles of the past and so has dropped some celebs when they were not able to find any different story lines to what has been shown before).

Yes, I tended to watch Family Affairs then keep my TV on Channel 5 after, as I couldn't be bothered to switch. After they axed it, I kinda had less shows to watch.
US Ratings – Wednesday September 28
It may be time for Fox to start worrying there was no second week growth for The X Factor it dropped 11% vs. last week’s premiere averaging a 3.9 in the demo across its two-hour run time (when I see the hour and/or half hour breakdown I’ll post it). Obviously that’s still a fantastic figure but with a reported promotional budget bigger than the production budget of any new show not named Terra Nova much more was expected.
ABC won the night with Modern Family dropping just 8% from its season opener making it the biggest show in the demo for the night and second only to Two and a Half Men so far this week. New comedy Suburgatory debuted very well despite having possibly the worst title of any new show this season keeping the year of comedy alive – that’s a 27% gain on Better With You’s debut in the same slot last year. Happy Endings wasn’t so strong at 9:30 it was down 6% vs. Cougar Town in the same slot last year although it looks like a series high for Happy Endings.
Free Agents has made its bid to be the first show pulled this season – I’m expecting an announcement on that schedule change before the end of the week particularly with Up All Night now in worrying territory. Harry’s Law was steady at 9. Survivor was also steady for CBS although Criminal Minds lost half a demo point on its season premiere.
At 10PM SVU dropped 17% (terrifyingly low for NBC), Revenge dropped 18% (down but not out for ABC) and CSI dropped just 6%. The new timeslot looks likely to extend its lifespan for another couple of seasons.
Over on The CW H8R was up 50% although admittedly that only translated to a rise of two tenths in the demo.

Yeah Could be. I wonder if the UK Voice might suffer the same fate as US X Factor then. The UK Public might be sick of talent shows to?

Seems likely, though we don't have Idol, but still I think it may be one too many

The underperformance of The X Factor US is likely down to a combination of things including a general burnout on talent shows and the (lack of) names involved. The whole thing is essentially resting on Simon Cowell and him being paired with Paula again. We’ll see what happens when it starts to get to the more X Factor specific parts of the show. The Fall scheduling hasn’t done it any favours either.
Another excellent number for Modern Family - I thought it'd be down more than that. Good news for ABC as well with Suburgatory starting considerably (27%) higher than Better With You last year. Happy Endings under 60% retention which isn't great. The 18% loss for Revenge doesn't look great but I guess it had a far lower lead-in. Considering ABC's recent history in that slot, they can't be too disappointed.
Not too bad a fall for X Factor - although it's skewing a bit old (43% were 18-49). Last Thursdays number surprised me a bit given how Idol typically shed viewers on that night, it'll be interesting to see how it performs this week. On one hand, getting out of the auditions might be a boost for the show. But the scheduling around judges houses is a mess because of the World Series which might cost them any momentum - they seem to be doing it differently to the UK (having some live "reveal") which makes no sense because the judges houses results has always been very popular (and is also the only show with absolutely no singing!).

We don’t have anywhere near as many competition shows as the US.

The Voice
The Sing-Off
And that’s just the ones on network television. Plus there’s shows like Survivor, America’s Next Top Model, Biggest Loser, Celebrity Apprentice and The Amazing Race (and again those are just the network shows).

The World Series is part of the problem with putting these kind of shows on in the Fall. It'll be interesting to see how heavily Fox pushes out the promotional boat for the other stages of the competition.
The live reveal thing is something I've always felt the UK show should adopt.

Nicole isn't a big name. I think if you compare the panel for The Voice to The X Factor its a bit like night and day.
