The rating's not been released yet but I suspect it was about 10.2m (44%) including +1. Probably a record audience for ITV1+1.

Both SCD and TXF (inc +1) were down about -15% vs. the equivalent averages last year. Doctor Who did excellently, the only one which didn't seem to be affected by the hot weather. Merlin was down -10% from its 5.8m opener last year, Casualty was down -10% from its equivalent rating last year (though last year it clashed against XF for 20mins). Jonathan Ross was the most disappointing IMO, he's not working in that post-XF slot. Piers Morgan was getting a minimum of 4m+ in that slot last Autumn.

I concur. as it was a tight match and more crucial for people north of the border. More proof that ITV should bid more for sports with a large male following as the advertisers love this. Better revenue, too, as I could imagine the advertising being for more upmarket products than the usual morning advertising of bingo and dodgy loan companies.

Ok so if it got someting like 10.2m I know it was down on last year but what about 2009. I agree Jonathan Ross rating was very poor last night when Gary Barlow and tulisa were guests. I thought it would be over 4m

IF it got 10.2m (inc +1) last night, it would be slightly up from the 10.1m it had in 2009. The share of 41%/44% (exc/inc +1) would also be up from the 39% share it had for the equivalent show in 2009.

Although the auditions did really well, it's now become pretty clear that the remaining stages of the competition won't rate as highly as last year's. Strictly Come Dancing clashes won't help either. If it can remain somewhere between the 2009 and 2010 level for the series average, that'd be a good job done IMO. I'd say the same thing for SCD and IAC too- neither of which I believe will hit the same heights last year but if they're still able to rate somewhere reasonably close to the 2010 figures (and above their 2nd highest averages in recent years), then that'd be a good job done.

The overnight series average for TXF currently stands at 10.5m (10.9m inc +1).

At the same stage in previous years, the overnight averages were:

2010- 11.3m
2009- 10.2m
2008- 9.2m

Not gonna post the earlier series averages as they were even lower. The gap between '10 and '11 figures are slightly closer in the officials as it's been timeshifting a little more this year.

I thought the s3 opener had 5.6m.
I'm a bit disappointed Merlin wasn't closer to Doctor Who, but it might grow like did last year.

Yeah, it got 10.27m with +1.

I'm pretty sure that's tapechecked though, as the full slot rating without +1 was 9.5m, so the full slot rating will have been about 10.1m based on that +1 rating.

It had 5.8m (including HD). 5.6m doesn't include HD

As you say, I'm sure it'll grow later this series as the weather gets colder and it gets the bigger SCD lead-ins.

Pleased for Doctor Who. As I had hoped they would, more people chose to watch it live so they wouldn't get the series finale spoilt for them by social networks.

The fallout from last week's Philip Glenister interview in the Radio Times ("The writers maintain 'Fire up the Quattro' was their idea, but it was mine. They will dispute it but - sorry guys - put it in print.") is unfortunately getting worse, with Ashes To Ashes writers Matthew Graham and Ashley Pharoah choosing to close their Twitter account monasticprods. 'Hidden' starts on Thursday, so doubtless Philip will be asked about this as he does the media interviews this week.

The Rugby did great numbers but it did help it was two home nations, can imagine what the figures will be like if England get into the final. What was the 2007 final rate?

Doctor Who and to an extent Merlin did very well considering the unusually hot weather and both will timeshift well. MPD seems to be up from recent weeks.

Big Brother got less than a million last night (971k) and that was even when Strictly/X Factor had finished, what will it get tonight against Spooks and Downton Abbey. The Goonies is on today on ch5 (4.45pm) hopefully they will be as successful as Mrs Doubtfire was last week.
