Quite seriously, I do think these shows become a problem for each other. The Voice was a hit in the US because it had quite a lot of new tricks up it's sleeve when compared to American Idol. TXF US hasn't really caught fire yet (despite its many advantages) I reckon because it just looks like an Idol/Voice crossover. They'll probably be hoping the unique boot camp stages, plus the 'novelty' and manufactured scandal of joke acts in the live stages make up for that a little as time goes on.

You wonder whether by the time The Voice arrives in Britain it'll have anything left to sell? The "current music act as mentors" wildcard that worked so effectively vs Idol has already had its thunder stolen by the new XF panel, to be frank.

I reckon 1.8million this week?

I can safely say they don't. If they did, Channel 5 would have never inflicted The Terry & Gabby Show on us for 200 editions.

It'll have to stay true to it's roots of the original and just present the raw talent. Not rely on the hype and twists that X-factor does, but go for the talent. Even by the battle stages, make decisions on "the Voice" rather than the package and keep true to that premise. If presented in this way, it will be different from X-factor and should be able to exist as an alternative. I'm sure Talpa/John de Mol will keep a very close eye on this one as after the US version, the UK is probably the biggest market the show will launch in. The Dutch version climbed a little further in the ratings last week to place it in the Top3 for RTL in the last ten years. Only the Idol series 1 final and the Voice final earlier this year rated higher.

How many people watched Steps Reunion this week?

Surely you save money doing it that way, not waste it, because it provides programming for three networks at the same time. And they all had reason to show it, BBC Parliament showed it because they show all the party conferences, BBC News showed it because it was a news story and BBC2 showed it because it was a major event they've always shown live.

Anyone got ratings for the Darts on sky sports 1 and premier league snooker on sky sports 2, my brother wants to know what got the most viewers, thanks in advance

Glee was written by Murphy and Brad Fulchuk for its first two season, they only just brought in a team of writers for this season. Nip/Tuck was brilliant for the first three seasons then just got progressively worse, I do like the look of American Horror Story though, think it would one for 5USA or Sky1/Atantic to pick up.

I think if Ryan Murphy remains showrunner and just have the writers take over, Glee would have a fighting chance.

It doesn't. The damage has already been done. Perhaps if they followed through on the original plan to ditch the original cast and replace them at the end of this season it could work but they've backed off of that recently.

Television can only work for any extended period of time when the audience is invested in the characters that populate the show and when you completely change who those characters are every other week to fit your latest (and increasingly desperate) plot it just alienates the audience.

At this point the very best Fox can hope for is that they can stop the bleeding (something NBC was never able to do with Heroes) but I'm not convinced that's going to happen because the writing for season three isn't substantially improved and the characters are still all over the place. I said it earlier in this thread and I'll repeat it again now Glee appears to following the exact same path as Heroes.

Brilliant first season. Huge ratings.
Terrible second season. Falling ratings.
Season three shows early signs of improvement but then falls apart. Ratings nosedive.
Season four attempts a massive reset of the whole series that fails. Ratings flatline the show is cancelled.

Charlie's Angels is not long for this world and ABC continue their journey toward being the Modern Family network with Grey's only just keeping its head above a 3. Over on CBS How To Be A Gentleman is likely not far from being pulled or at least swapped with Rules of Engagement. Person of Interest can't possibly continue to occupy that 9PM slot for much longer either.

What does everybody thing X Factor will get this weekend

I think The Mentalist and PoI will be swapped, while CBS have a new hit in 2BG, theyre struggling at bit with new dramas. Can we expect HTBAG to be axed sooner rather than later as it must be the worst performing CBS show.

Bet they're glad they renewed RoE for another full season, it'll keep the slot warm until the Rob Scheider sitcom is ready. Still think CBS will expand comedy on Thursdays maybe with single camera comedies taking over 8 or 9pm.



I'm not sure how they'll keep the original cast as it look odd for them to still be in High School. Rebooting it with some of the younger characters as seniors plus fresh faces would IMO only be good. They'd have to keep Schue and Sue although I'd be tempted to bring in a new teacher.

I think they've be well served by moving Big Bang to 8:30 (where it would benefit from higher HUT and PUT levels and its not doing any good propping up a one a done sitcom or a renewed for syndication only sitcom) and swapping The Mentalist and Person of Interest. At least until midseason when they could potentially shake things up a little more. So you'd have

8PM: How To Be A Gentleman or Rules of Engagement
8:30PM: The Big Bang Theory
9PM: The Mentalist
10PM: Person of Interest

On the subject of How To Be A Gentleman they seem to have already laid the ground work to switch it with Rules. My guess is they'll do that sooner rather than later and burn whatever episodes of Gentleman they have left off on Saturdays. It'll be interesting to see where the midseason comedy lands. They've had no luck in that Thursday 8:30 slot so if they're serious about having a Thursday comedy block it might be time to move a second show from Monday over (How I Met Your Mother or Mike & Molly being the only real options) and using the free space on Monday to launch a new comedy.

If they want to expand the Thursday comedy block next season they need a second successful comedy there this season.


As far as I can see the original plan was for a handful of characters to graduate and leave Glee at the end of this season and give them (or at least 3-4 of them) a spin-off for 2012-2013. However talks on that broke down so it now looks as if they're going to try and retain all of the original cast in the hopes of launching a spin-off midseason 2012-2013 presumably when Glee goes on hiatus. I think Fox would be mad to agree to this and I agree that they should just stick with their original vision of a revolving cast.

To return to my Heroes comparison once more it should be noted that one of the great stumbling blocks for season two was that they abandoned their original intention of basically bringing in a new cast every season and only retaining a handful of people year-to-year in smaller roles. And of course there was a proposed Heroes spin-off that died as well. Its kind of spooky how much these two shows overlap.

The Writer's Strike hurt Heroes as it was gaining momentum, it's a shame because it was one of those show which had huge potential but just got worse.

Toy Story 2 should do well for Channel 5 although it was only on BBC One last year. They've shown all the Pixar up to Finding Nemo.

I wonder what'll replace The Bachelor? The Big Brother final will most likely be on the 11th November so they could launch The Mentalist at 10 or 10.30pm or wait until the 18th. Still think they'll save it to air in January or February.

Their only option to appease Murdoch was to reduce the BBC's income by freezing the licence fee, and heaping extra responsibilities upon it.

I do think though they should have held off until Saturday and revealed the twist live on stage.

Looks like the ITV1 soaps were dented heavily in the 8pm hour by BBC1 and BBC2. Hidden got off to a good start, I suspect it will settle in the early 5m's, if anything Joanna Lumley is easier opposition. Pretty poor rating for Channel 5 in the 8pm hour too.

EastEnders put in a good performance for BBC One, which had a strong night overall. I wonder what the breakdown for Hidden looks like; that's a decent start for it. Question Time performed well yet again in the post news slot and Watchdog is a great show to throw against the soaps.

The Great British Bake Off spin off did well in a different slot for BBC Two but just like Tuesday's, the next programme didn't do much with the lead in. Mock the Week did ok if not brilliantly.

Stupid scheduling for the ITV soaps hurt them as per usual, though the 7pm Emmerdale did well share wise. Route 66 held up reasonably considering the opposition.

Channel 4 had a mediocre night with nothing lighting up the ratings board but nothing flopping spectacularly.

Big Brother is holding up well for Channel 5; How Do they Do It pulled in a reasonable figure considering at 7.30pm and Bit on The Side is a solid performer if not fantastic at 11pm.

ITV have recommissioned Dinner Date, 40 x 60 minutes, however it will not be promoted into primetime. Interesting, I thought it did alright at 5pm but not very good.

Well at least Glee improved, one of the best episodes ever IMHO.
