This is the woman I saw on Newsnight tonight, I think, in the piece they did about economic stats in Europe? If same person, I thought she was a wonderful communicator......she makes economics nearly comprehensible even to me, and I noticed she almost began to chair the discussion, although she was in theory a guest.

Totally agree, Alex. She gets her point across clearly and concisely, without interrupting or shouting anyone down and is very encouraging to other participants in any discussion she is involved in.

I love Newsnight anyway and she has just made it a lot better. Makes a change from Peston and his weird way of speaking which always makes me laugh and means I miss what he's actually saying.

Agree Kay, and I have to say it.....I was proud of those women last night (though Emily Maitlis looked slightly baffled on occasion.....but fair enough I guess....)

Exactly. She has total intellectual mastery of her subject but can make it seem so simple to a layman. And with her lack of ego and ability to engage calmly with other debaters, she demonstrates why it's such a shame that so many of our 'institutions' are still male-dominated. Agree about Peston too - it's a shame he can't switch his caricature off occasionally!
