Some interesting stats about 2000 AD!
2011 has turned into a landmark year for 2000 AD.
2011's 2000 AD has seen a story with the longest EVER gap between respective series: Pat Mills' sequel to Flesh Book 1 which was published a few months ago. An incredible 34 year gap between Flesh book one and the direct sequel. Day of Chaos - the current Judge Dredd story - is the sequel to the Apocalypse War. That's a 30 year gap between the original story and the sequel. Indigo Prime - currently being published in 2000 AD - has a 20 year gap between the last story and the new one. Amazing! Thrill-power through the decades.

While there may be a 34 years between Flesh books 1 and 2 it's not exactly a gap as there has been Pat Mills authored Flesh books in the early 90's (recently republished in the Meg).
As to the Day of Chaos, well there have been one or two vengefull Sovs in the interim; Orlok being one of them. There was the more recent incident on Sin City where 800K citizens were killed, which, admitedly would only be third item on an obscure news vid channel and presented by some simp dressed as a clown! |

I am still trying to work out why anyone would think bringing back Indigo Prime was a good idea. What's next? Mambo? Tyranny Rex, maybe?
I'm holding out for the triumphant return of Wolfie Smith... |

I'm in mild shock anyone replied to my thread! Hardly anyone talks about 2000 AD on this comics forum. Sure, I know there's been a number of Flesh books but my point was it's 34 years between the direct sequel to Flesh book one. I guess the recent Flesh book could be described as Flesh book 1B rather than Flesh book 2 because Flesh book 2 was published not that long after Flesh book 1 and was rather good too. It was set at sea and featured water based dinosaurs and the evil Claw Carver out for gold. A cool feature of the story was the centre page artwork by Massimo Belardinelli. Quote:

Dan Dare is still waiting to return to 2000 AD. He was supposed to return - his last story back in 1978 was never resolved - and I'm still waiting. ![]() |

I would like to see Dan Dare return to 2000AD. There might be a rights issue, I'm assuming Rebellion don't own the rights to Dan Dare but heck, I want DD to return. Nay, I demand it!

There was a rumour of a new Dan Dare film....
http://www.slashfilm.com/sam-worthin...of-the-future/ Not heard much since. A slightly Americanized version of Dan Dare could have international appeal, perhaps, more so than most 2000AD characters. Dare is an old-school stiff upper lip type hero whereas more 2000AD heroes are rather subversive and morally ambiguous.

They did have some great covers back then. I think probably my favourite 2000AD cover of the early years was the one with Judge Dredd and the Jigsaw Man; Dredd, in an alleyway, coming face to...er...mouth with a disembodied, floating mouth that was saying "help me, Judge Dredd-I'm going to pieces!"

^re: movie rumours - I remember when there was a rumour of a Button Man movie. Got me all excited for a couple of months, but methinks what with that being ~15yrs ago I'm thinking maybe not.

The Button Man film is still a possibility. Button Man artist Arthur Ranson mentioned it in 2010: Quote:
"I heard that Dreamworks have renewed their option on Button Man which is good news – not the best possible but good. They are still considering it, it could still happen, it is not ruled out, the possibility remains. Fingers crossed."
Then again it might be a good thing if it doesn't get made. Sometimes Hollywood film makers really mess up comic characters. Ahem.... Judge Dredd! On the other hand, it should be easier to translate Button Man to film than a character like Judge Dredd so you never know....

^been a loooooong while since I read the 3(?) storylines, but from what I remember the art did lend itself extremely well to a 'simple' conversion to film (whatever THAT means
)btw: hopefully Dredd 2012 will get things right this time - for me it's all about the suit, get that right and the world's their oyster, but make it look silly then they be doomed. |

Yes, I remember hearing about it at the time, but it seems to have gone very quiet. There were plans for a Dan Dare TV show in the early eighties too, but that likewise never materialized.

The new Judge Dredd film seems to be having some considerable trouble. The director has been given his marching orders! Quote:
the Times is reporting “creative disagreements with producers and executives”, which have basically led to Travis’ apparent departure from the project. The article uses the word "dismissal", then saying of Travis that "he is keeping up with progress via the Internet".
http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/1083...ting_room.html Doesn't sound too encouraging but the film isn't released for 11 months so there's hope the problems can be sorted out. But this news is a bit depressing.

She did actually come back for a very brief run a few years ago. If there was ever a chracter that is begging to return to 2000ad it has to be Halo Jones
I also think her story would be ripe for a TV adaptation. Nowadays, they'd do a fantastic job, I'm sure. Imagine it. 12 parts. The first third on the hoop, the second on board the Clara Pandy, the last detailing her war exploits. It'd be epic. |

My mock Dredd 2012 film teaser poster using an altered version of the Planet Replica Judge Dredd uniform (smaller shoulder pads, smaller badge/chain, thinner body and different Dredd face). I added a tagline at the top of the image.

I loved the original Flash Stories, but haven't bought 2000AD since the 80's - what issues were the new story in? and where could I get them? I don't suppose a graphic novel is coming out with them in (I've got the Flesh 1 % 2 book)?

The new Flesh saga continues on from the very first book which started in prog 1. The new series is entitled: Texas 10 episodes (Progs 1724 to 1733) Script: Pat Mills, Artist: James Mackay, Letters: Ellie De Ville I'm guessing after the next series - which should be published next year - both series will be collected in a graphic novel reprint. As mentioned earlier, Flesh: Texas holds the record for the longest gap between the end of the first book of a 2000AD story and its direct follow-up...... thirty one years! |
