I really hope that there is a best of British music driven open ceremony.....

Early Folk - Celtic links
Lambeth Walk - cockney
Charleston
Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - West End
60s- Beatles, Stones focus
70s- Bowie, Led Zep, K Bush
80s- Wham, Duran Duran, Culture Club, Sex Pistols
90s- Rave scene; Spice Girls
00s - Leona Lewis Bleeding Love; Adele Rolling In the Deep; James Blunt Beautiful

Link fashion

Any other thoughts...

needs more reps from other countries besides England - stick in the Pogues, The Proclaimers, and Tom Jones

Also needs Muse!

British music? The Charleston has nothing whatsoever to do with Britain, and the music in both Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was written by the Sherman brothers, both Americans.

On the other hand, there's a whole raft of classical music written by Elgar, Vaughan Williams, Britten and others that has been completely missed out.

Adele - Rolling In The Deep would be representing the 10's not the 00's .

The London Olympics are the English Olympics. Why do other countries need representing. If the Olympics were in Edinburgh, you can guarantee the Scots would declare them to be the Scottish Olympics, and quite rightly so! England is a country you know! It's not a British district!

The United Kingdom is the host though, they'll have the Union Jack as a major part of the visuals and as English-orientated as it will be, I doubt they'd exclude any contribution from N.I/Scotland or Wales.

They could pull a Beijing-esque sequence where they go through British inventions...a lot of which are Scottish, for example. I dare say we'll be seeing plenty of kilts and pipers, it's part of our collective culture and an iconic visual.

On the music side of thing, England is dominant and the ceremony will probably reflect that. They shouldn't just throw in Scottish/N.I./Welsh for the sake of it, it should be an act by act decision - who brings most to the show. Saying that though, Katherine Jenkins and Tom Jones could be there, Annie Lennox too.

I imagine that realistically, the musical content will be British invasion onwards because that's where Brit's shine. Paul McCartney leading a Beatles tribute, Queen, Elton John, Rolling Stones etc. Probably not Oasis though.

In terms of contemporary acts, Adele is a no-brainer assuming she doesn't have a nervous breakdown over the sheer scale of audience. Leona too, probably after that taster. I wouldn't be surprised if Gaga performed with Queen either.

As would I. It's absolutely perfect for the occasion.

Considering the Olympics are being held in London I would be very disappointed if the acts performing did not reflect the Ethnic mix in London. Also the fact that many British athletes are from a variety of backgrounds.Younger acts should also be given the oppurtunity to perform and be seen by a world wide audience.I would love to see Dionne Broomfield, Adele, Alexandra Burke, Leona Lewis, Ed Sheeran and James Morrison perform. The older acts have enjoyed huge platforms for decades surely it is time to reflect modern Britain.

Wrong. Totally wrong. The 2012 Games were awarded to "London" but will take place on various sites including the Millennium Stadium in Wales. No English team is competing, it's Team GB. The British government is funding the games, massively. These are the London/Great Britain Olympics,

Well, representing England I'd have the Sex Pistols "Anarchy in the UK", for Scotland the Jesus and Mary Chain "Kill Surf City", for Wales the Manic Street Preachers "Repeat" and for Northern Ireland Ash with "Numbskull".

But maybe that's just me...

I say ban Scottish acts from performing. They're having an independence referendum in the next few years so I think we should give them a taste of 'independence'.

Agree with most comments... I was just trying to put some quick ideas together...but the main focus being a celebration of British Culture, Fashion and Music.

Tom Jones, Muse would be great additions.

I so didn't realise that Charleston was from south Carolina...but was trying get something that reflected our strong 1920 downtown abbey period.

And Brit Pop from 60 s and 90 s should be represented. Glam rock too!

Given the establishment is organising it, I expect the music will be some miltary band, Vera Lynn and, for the kids, Cliff Richard.

I propose the following line-up:

Paul McCartney
Ray Davies
The Who
Adele
Arctic Monkeys
Blur
Black Sabbath
Cliff Richard
Scottish Pipe Band
Male Voice Choir
Orchestra Playing Elgar

There you, reflects the variety and style of Britain through the years, everybody knows who they are, most people will like at least one song and they're plausible.

A reformed Led Zeppelin would've been quite nice, but it's not going to happen.
