Just thought I would do this for a week or even longer. It would be the first time I would be eating anything that is not man made ,cooked or refined for a week. I wonder how long I would last - 24hours perhaps.

Has anyone tried this? Fruits, Veg, water or (raw meat ) I think I would sklip the raw meat bit.

Been a 100% raw foodist for a few months. Probably 80% for a few years.

I have been vegan for over 20 years and this was easier. Be prepared for the 'protein' low level discussions and 'B12' ... been there done that. There's a mass of information out there, much is conflicting, among raw foodists and "science" alike so you need to find what is good for you. Advice from dieticians etc. is very much culturally biased so I ignore it (and always have done)

If you can do it, it's all good.

Message me if you want to chat about it, would be happy to share my experiences.

Alas a raw foodist

I feel you should spread the word, share online so others can learn. My only worry is Veggies, how do you eat stuff like Brocolli raw? Maybe its best to soak it in water for hours?

I also heard you get bloated for the first weeks. What about the changes in mood, skin, weight? I am a really 100% meater. I eat like 1kg of beef a day So you have to understand this is the biggest challenge for someone like me.

My reasons for the change are ethical and health reasons. I have seen the light and ready to change my ways

I'd never spread the word purely because I don't believe in doing so. But if somebody asks, I'm happy to help.

Knowing DS as I do, this thread will sadly turn into a mass of the tired old claptrap that I don't have the time for.

I am well versed in being raw my friend and if you would like to chat on Skype sometime message me and I'd be more than happy to share my experiences.

I'm not a raw foodist, but I eat raw veggies, including broccoli all the time. Why would you need to soak it? As far as raw meat, you should go find a good Japanese restaurant and try some sashimi.

We used to be WWOOF-hosts ( http://www.wwoof.org.uk/ )
and one of our many volunteers was a cruditarian. Mind you, she was also vegan so she wouldn't be eating any raw meat.

Plenty of nuts and seeds, edible flowers, fruit and vegetables (you can eat most raw - no need to soak in water for hours )
You can also easily make your own bean sprouts.

She was the healthiest looking person I have ever seen and her skin was a great indicator.

Why would I soak Brocolli? Eating raw is about the hardest thing on earth. But I am excited about the challenge and potential changes, for the first time ever since I was a baby, I would going a whole day eating something that has not been cooked. Maybe my body can heal? I dont know but it's obvious what we eat affects the way we feel and look.

Anyway I went shopping today - my list

Vegs:

Carrots
Lettuce
Parsnips
Brocolli

Fruits

Strawberrys
Watermelon
Apple

Fat

Avocado

Hardest thing on earth? I can't tell if you're joking. Did you used to cook your watermelon too? Best of luck to you, anyway!

I think it must be very hard . You need stamina, food knowledge and a lot of ispiration to keep mealtimes interesting.
Plus, you need really fresh produce.

I couldn't do it.

I don't doubt eating a raw diet is hard. I'm just asking about soaking broccoli.

It's easy at first, then after the first month you think about certain cravings but that passes. The craving stage can be a turning point as some people may beat themselves up if they having something cooked and think they have fallen "off the wagon" as it were. But you either give in to it as it's a one off or try and get through it.

I've never heard about soaking broccoli, nor would I.

The only issue I've had is finding raw almonds. They are all "pasteurised" (a.k.a. had the living daylights cooked out of them) so by the time we get them in their nice little packets, it's already dead. But you can find real raw ones if you look.

Getting good ripe (organic) fruit is essential of course.

Since I went raw from about 80% raw for a long time the energy I've had has been nothing short of remarkable. So I get more stamina than I ever thought possible.

As a rule, I go on fruits, melon and berries all day then in the evening a big salad with:
- sprouts like alfalfa
- avocado
- lettuce
- red and yellow peppers
- cucumber
- beetroot
- celery
- carrot

Salad and greens tend to slow you down, which is great for the evening, for me anyway. So I avoid fruit in the evening otherwise I wouldn't be able to sleep.

Yet another fad diet like the paleolithic thing in the states. I'm pretty sure that steaming certain vegetables helps the body to absorb nutrients more effectively.

why do you do it out of interest? is it for health reasons?

I think it is for that reason mainly. I know of several people who have tried this diet in hopes of curing skin problems and allergies. Not sure if it worked or not.

I don't know if it works or not. But as I stated before, I have never encountered anyone looking as good an healthy as the cruditarian.
It's not for me, if I eat salads, nuts, etc I will be down with IBS

Why criticise if you're not interested? Do you watch television programmes you're not interested in either unable to change channel?

You may be 'pretty sure' about what you like. I'm pretty sure no other animals steams or otherwise cooks their food. Some scientists theorise that cooked meat 'brought us out of the trees' and we can argue about that all day because other scientists disagree with that entirely.

I've been on this 'fad' for a number of years and more recently have been 100% raw. Everybody goes through phases about all sorts of things, even you.

The real point is live and let live and there's little point in arguing because it's all about choices and goodness, we should all want choices for each other.

Try and get raw (unpasteurised) nuts, then soak them overnight and rinse them before you eat them. When I had IBS in the mid 90s doing that didn't irritate me.

But if nuts give you problems, avoid them. Look up what protein actually is and get it from elsewhere. Message me if you want further details.

FYI: I'm just willing to share my experiences if anybody asks and am not trying to sell anybody anything. I don't often go back to threads because of bickering that's just so

Best of luck!

Interesting thread - I want to get in before everyone starts arguing!

John_Elway, can you give some more examples of protein that you eat? I eat a vegan diet and am allergic to nuts and there's only so much tofu and beans a person can eat!

And Papa Rat, as others have said raw broccoli is fine, no need to soak it! I often eat raw veggies with some hummus. Let us know how you get on.

Im a raw foodist too and I absolutly love this way of eating! The food is tasty, nourishing and makes you feel good too. I started off just by introducing a salad and fruit every day into my diet and then just built it up from that.

As its difficult dealing with cooked food addictions I have to get encouragement and help from online websites. I have skin problems from eating too much wheat in the past but raw food is wonderful and once you discover the joys of eating raw food there is no going back!
