This series is dung compared to Secret Story 2

Some fair points there. Keeping hold of their share in that demographic won't be easy.
There are some things in the pipeline which may have some appeal including a new series with Paul Merton called Great Escapes, but I don't have any news on an airdate for that yet.
There are also a number of big movie premieres due to air on Channel 5 between now and Christmas, including disaster movie 2012, blockbusters Angels and Demons and Terminator Salvation, comedy Stepbrothers and many more besides. I'd expect these to have a high share of 16-34s watching.
But I hope for next year they build a clearer 16-34 strategy around Big Brother. They've had some success with The Bachelor, and last night scheduling Ali G Indahouse after Big Brother paid off no end (they still had a 10% share of TV watching 16-34 yr olds in the 12am hour) however there is more that could be done to keep that audience with 5.

I actually think some things like name tags, montages (used appropriately), and flashbacks will make this a much more accessible show for people who think its one of those watch from the start or there is no point shows. I know lots of people think that, but IMO people have plenty of time to still get to know the characters and the use of music and divvying up story lines across the week should be good enough to allow most viewers an idea of peoples personalities. Whilst the house is busy numbers wise it can be off putting for casual viewers, but IMO the show has concentrated on a few threads with a smattering of others in a watch-able way.

I notice that when press statements are revealed they are often quoted to be thrilled or very pleased to have increased the percentage share of their prized 16-34 demographic.
That can be very misleading or even spin in itself.
Why? One may ask.
Because they rarely if ever say that they've actually increased the 16-34 demographic in real numbers, it's pretty much always presented as a percentage.
You could dramatically increase your 16-34 percentage from 25% to 37%. That might sound great. But ironically that can happen by an actual decrease in viewers.
If you haemorrhage millions of viewers you could be losing viewers belonging to all demographics, including the 16-34 group, but yet your 16-34 demographic can increase in percentage terms even if there is a decrease of them watching in real viewer numbers.

Completely agree. They said they wanted to make it an all singing all dancing entertainment show and for me they have succeeded. I think the reason the new editing style has come under fire from a portion of the fanbase is because some people just don't like change. Love or loathe what they've done with it, Big Brother was crying out for change after 11 years and 3 years or so of dwindling audiences.
Live tasks would be good. I was sad when Channel 4 dropped those. They do need to step it up a gear with the tasks actually as new ideas have been thin on the ground this series.

It depends if you're looking at the share of the BB audience that is 16-34 aged or Channel 5's share of 16-34 year olds watching TV whilst BB is on. Big difference. I prefer to look at the latter and that's what the stats I have posted relate to. The 12% they are getting is far bigger than what they normally attract both in real viewer numbers and percentage terms.
Ratings slightly on the way up, which is decent enough. At least they're not crashing further. I think the series will probably average around 1.5m in the overnights and then around 1.8m in the officials.
I thought you'd been losing interest in the C5 series since the day it began.

I thought you'd been losing interest in the C5 series since the day it began.
Im enjoying the new style of editing on BB but something needs to be done to reignite interest and boost the flagging ratings..An extra live show during the week would suffice, a live crowd isnt needed...Maybe live nominations once a week or a live task....I really dont like the way that Channel 5 is basically doing nothing to promote the show or ignite interest.Its like they have already given up on this series!!

Every year a ratings slump is predicted for when certain housemates are evicted / leave and they rarely ever do. I remember all the Shabby fans telling us last year the show would completely collapse in the ratings without her and it never did.
IMO, it is important for a handful of big characters to be evicted at the beginning of a series because other housemates usually step up and fill their space by coming to the forefront. It's when we get to the 2nd half of the series and we start to lose the big characters that it really starts to be a detriment to the show IMO. By then we've usually seen enough of everyone to get a feel of their personalities.

In fairness, because the launch figures were so low and there's always a big drop-off of viewers after the launch, this series of BB was doomed from the start.

That's a bit harsh. There's a Big Brother ident and plug before / after almost every single programme on Channel 5. That might not seem like a lot but they reach over 11 million people across the day, so that's a lot of viewers being exposed to BB promotion of some kind. They also play out a little 20 second tease for each night's highlights show throughout primetime.

My point was Channel 5 are doing very little to increase the momentum of the series.Putting a few idents on Channel isnt exactly going to create any excitement around the show, now is it? They need to be far more creative and muster up some buzz around the show-get people talking!! A few extra live shows would be a start( and bring back the feed).....
Ratings are bad, no matter what way you spin it.I just expected Channel 5 to actually do something to increase ratings. And they have done absolutely nothing!! The show is just plodding along......

You know I would love if they did nominations and then of all the remaining HM's every week they did a russian roulette style nomination-a wildcard so to speak.
And have a challenge maybe so people can win immunity for the RRN like Harry did.
I love the competitiveness without the politicking-just one person striving to stay in!
Edit: If this was live I think peeps would watch.
Plus it would shake up evictions as we would get a varied spread of HM's as opposed easy targets like this week-though I understand why both are up-having two big characters is a bummer.

Of course you're going to get the odd anomalously low result from a show that's airing night after night for 9 weeks. On that particular night Channel 5 viewers in some parts of the country were met with a black screen of death for around 5-10 minutes shortly before BB went to air, so not the best of nights to go on.
I prefer to judge it in terms of average from week-to-week. So far this week is up on last week, so I'm happy.
