Which Friday 9pm show was higher? (Was it the launch show or an eviction?)

the worrying element for C5/Endemol.
Most of the key players were facing eviction last night.
Jay and Arron the most talked about HM's and yet it still didnt come close to a 2 million mark.

maybe as a ratings boost they should put the whole house up make it a double and vote to Evict.
tie this in with like a 'week of hell' theme coming up to Halloween

Ohh, I forgot that the launch was ON a Friday

But basically, it was the third highest rating of the series.
The first being the launch which got 2.6m, the second being Tashie's eviction 9pm show, getting 1.83m, the third being the 1.61m of last night.

BB still got less ratings than Autumn watch on BBC2 and Comic Strip on C4
after a big eviction they still fail to produce good ratings on a friday

Who would know it would be a big eviction apart from the people who watch it? This rating is the highest it would get, it won't get any higher, the launch only got 2.6m. It's not like it launched with 5m+ like other series, then it would make sense to break 2.5-3.0m.

I doubt it could suddenly find an extra 400,000 (or actually 600,000) viewers to make it 2m when overnights have rarely been over 1.4m all series.

Dads Army repeats pull 2 million viewers.

Just some context.

For this series, last nights ratings were great.

In comparison to any previous year, of course, I'll diplomatically say they're shite.

Content wise, I actually thought last night was 'classic' BB. I really enjoyed it.

True.

A bit of a move in the right direction though.

Though as you say, we have to put it into context and remember that when speaking about how BB ratings are doing we are speaking in relative terms.

One of the best eviction nights ever on BB last night in my opinion though. I think it deserved an extra couple of million at least added on top.

I'm not saying BB's ratings are great, but would Dad's Army repeats get 2 million if they were on every single night? And are they really comparable, considering they are a different genre and Dad's Army is a "classic", fondly-remembered show?

Exactly.

At least it wasn't seen as 'just another highlights' show. Significantly more people than usual turned up.

It was a great episode, I thought, but it wouldn't mean anything to people who hadn't been watching at least occasionally, so as to know the housemates and main story lines.

That has to be the worry for Endemol. It was the heavy hitters all facing the public.Yes the numbers are better but endemol have to start thinking outside the box its currently in.

the delay to the 2nd show is that all they could think of??

The delay to the second show was a genius move. It boosted the numbers to a series high for 11pm.

Exactly. Which is why I think they could drop the endless recaps and flashbacks and long narrated bits from Marcus as I doubt they are persuading any new viewers to get into it.

Indeed.

My point wasnt to play down the improvement, more to point out that there is a still a TV audience out there beyond the big productions, and everything doesnt have to be 'new' and 'fresh' and 'edgey' to get it.

A decent show will still get a decent sized audience.

This BB's biggest problem, as I said from the start, is it just wasnt very good, Brian was (and still is) very poor, particularly on launch night, and the HMs were all very much of a muchness, its that , more than live feed ot any other factor, why its getting low ratings.

It may be better now , but the start was very very poor, and its been paying for it ever since.

I think they thought the Pamela Anderson thing would pull in viewers, but that all seems like a lifetime ago, it was so forgettable.

But they do help people who don't watch every night.

They would help new viewers too, if new viewers came along.

I agree with that.

I also think that starting bb12 immediately after CBB was, in retrospect, a huge mistake.

They probably thought they'd be getting more of the (larger) CBB audience, but it looks instead like they aren't getting anyone except that part of the CBB audience that was still interested.

I suspect they were hoping that would also help keep the CBB audience watching.

I doubt the recaps make any difference to viewing figures whatsoever. They're not going to make new viewers care about what's going on at any rate. And BB has always explained past events for viewers who've missed bits, but used to do it more subtly, by having Marcus first explain what housemates were referring to or reacting to. The current "PREVIOUSLY!" bits just look desperate in my opinion, especially as the chance of new viewers joining the show diminishes as time goes on.

Not really context is it? Completely different show, with a very different audience, on a different night. It's just a random stat shoehorned in to try and make a fairly decent result for BB last night look worse.

It's a shame it didn't nudge closer to that 2m mark, but it's a step in the right direction. BBC Two and Channel 4 may have been ahead in Total People however I suspect in the demos it was a different story as Comic Strip and Autumnwatch would have skewed quite old IMO.

Extremely poor showing, considering it was a five way vote, some major characters were up and they strung the eviction out till the second show. If you can't comfortably draw in 2m viewers for probably the biggest eviction night of the series, might as well give up now.

The eviction deserved higher ratings, last night felt like classic BB. Best eviction in a long time.

It was a smart move to keep the eviction announcement till 11pm although I wonder if that will happen next week.

I predict 1.1 million for tonight.

anything that improves the 2nd show of the night will remain.

I reckon 1.2m tonight, one of the highest Saturdays, just because most people would want to see the reactions after the results, as last night was a more interesting one and was watched by more people.
