I don't think Len was being entirely serious and was having a bit of a laugh.
Just downloaded and watched the program.
I'll have to agree with you, I'd have thought Len's smirking would have been a bit of a clue, he seemed to have a good laugh at Frank's jokes he got in return too.

I used to like the old format, where the host didn't try so hard to lever in his own jokes.
Give the guests some time to breath and really argue their case, get some good jokes with the play between them and the host.
I find some of Frank's set-ups too laboured, it's still an amusing show mind.

Oh 4.5 litres to the Gallon (roughly), do that conversion every time I go and get Petrol.
When I ran LPG, I'd convert avg consumption on Petrol to consumption on LPG to work out how much money I'd saved.

I think Len might be a bit set in his ways but he said it all with a twinkle in eyes. Frank seemed to find him amusing! I like Len, he has a good turn of phrase. (bTW - love ham, egg and chips AND curry, Thai, italian food!)

I much preferred the old format with Paul Merton/Nick Hancock, there was more time given to guests to argue their case even if you didnt agree with it, some good banter/jokes and it was more like a chatshow kind of thing.

That's how I preferred it too, OK you get some dead air, but everything doesn't have to be joke, joke, joke, every 30 seconds.

Oh there's nothing like Imperial units
Rod/Perch/Pole
The rod or perch or pole is a surveyors tool[1] and unit of length equal to 51⁄2 yards, 161⁄2 feet or 1⁄320 of a statute mile and one-fourth of a surveyor's chain. The rod is useful as a unit of length because whole number multiples of it can equal one acre of square measure.

I've been going off Skinner for some time now. He seems to think if you are not a celeb your life is worthless.

I also much prefer the old format as this version is very much dumbed down.

Whether or not you get a good episode of Room 101 when it is just 1 guest is really dependent on the guest. I can remember some abysmal episodes of the old format where the host really struggled to get anything out of the guest

I've always thought that Ronnie was very alluring.
I still do.
She's absolutely gorgeous, always has been.

As for Len...yeah, he came off as a prick. But hey, not everything in life can reach the ten-scaling heights of Farmfoods.

That can't be right. He supports The Baggies.

What are you basing that on?

True, good point. I remember when Paul first came on as a host, and he annoyed me compared to Nick Hancock as he would put EVERYTHING into Room 101 in his early episodes. It depends on the guest as you say, on Paul's last episode it was Ian Hislop and IIRC Paul spent the whole episode taking the piss out of him (good naturedly I hope)

I think that was rather set up as the first couple of things Hislop picked were things that Merton loved - The Beatles and silent films I think.

I think Len came across as totally fake, one big act. I bet he is a miserable bu**er when the camera isn't rolling.

I hope I'm wrong, but I've know people like that before and I think I spotted some signs. They give the image of being the life and sole of the party in public, but are self centred and selfish in private.

What the hell are you expecting, their on camera, they're there to perform.
Their not sat at home, it's a studio and they've been paid to be there.

What you get when the camera goes on is going to vary from one performer to another, some it's a complete invention, an act (Richard Ayoade), others it's just a louder more excitable version of themselves.

Given Len's performance on this, I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised if he's a miserable bugger off-screen/off duty.

I enjoyed Len railing against modern life. I'm sure we'd all be happier with egg and chips, imperial measurements and less choice. He should stand for government.

No. But look out for it when you are watching the repeats of his shows - that are always on.

It still is a chat show.
It's more of a panel show nowadays.

The Paul Merton series were by far my favourite. I still re-watch them on YouTube every now and again. Frank Skinner is a decent enough host, but I've had enough of panel shows (except for HIGNFY and WILTY).

Just caught this. Not great, but had a few funny moments. The stuff about cats raised a smile. Len just seemed to have wandered in from an episode of Grumpy Old Men (which when I caught it found it pretty obvious and tedious...preferred Harry and Paul's take off of it) and was particularly predictable, but Ronnie was pretty good and Tim got a few gags in.
