They've now got a screen beside each person that shows the choice appear / disappear down one of those air/vacuum chute things.

Yes, I'm sad the crap models have gone

But David T's South African accent descending into Dudley was hysterical

I wouldn't have called them crap, some of them were quite imaginative as I recall

Fair point, they were imaginative . . . but not exactly Rodin

It's strange that the sometimes impressive but cheapo looking items have gone as Skinner himself said they used them, the DIY levers and a bought in theme tune (been used in adverts and other things) to save money.

Is it now cheaper to have video screens and animation than props people?

David Tennant was good, Trevor McDonald was unsurprisingly dull and Aisling Bea didn't say much funny.

I thought the South African bit was painfully unfunny but reading this thread I guess I am in the minority. Just can't take to this show nowadays, used to love it under previous presenters and I am not knocking Frank Skinner but I just preferred having one guest rather than three.

They seem to have scrapped the "categories" too.”

Yes, i preferred the models too. The IT replacements are boring. Maybe the model maker resigned or got made redundant!
The categories have gone too as you say davads, but the last few series just seemed to have "modern life", "people". and "wildcard" most of the time so it was getting boring.
I notice they haven't reinstated the extra choice for the winner though.

I've liked the guests so far this series though.

Frank Skinner was in great form last night.

Never thought I'd agree with Ian Wright. The moral of grease: completely change who you are and you'll get a boyfriend

Too much Frank Skinner not enough guests

Me too. That has always struck me about Grease and how Sandy changes from wholesome to sexy to get Danny at the end. Danny is wearing a cardigan before he sees the changed Sandy and is teased by his mates for it, showing he is thinking of changing, and then removes it when he sees her, symbolising that he has won. Wright is the only one ever mention it that I've seen or read!

Ian Wright, surprisingly, was a very good guest.

Interesting that they managed to sneak a Greased Lightning clip into a pre-watershed show, with its slightly naughty lyrics - although I suppose the line about "getting lots of t@t" is marginally more acceptable than the one about "a real p@ssy wagon"...

Yeah. I don't think the cat line would have been approved!

The pink ladies and the t birds are both horrible. Sandy is the only decent person in the show, but they wear her down and change her.

It's been covered by Cracked.

OK they got rid of the models but why not quickly drawn naff graphics instead of labels for the items chosen?

Definitely. The segment where he was singing 'hopelessly devoted' was cringeworthy and should have been cut imo. Awful telly.

Thanks brangdon, good article!

That segment was a waste of time. There is an increasing tendency to have totally trivial unnecessary clips, guests, etc to try and convince one of the guests to change their mind.

Hardly watch 'Room 101' these days, because it is all Frank Skinner....want to see the guests.

Have to agree with this. It was bloody awful.

Not a bad episode otherwise, Ian Wright was quite funny but I have never seen Joanna Scanlan in anything so had no idea who she was.

Decent actress if you watch The Thick of It and Getting On. Not seen her in anything else though.

I don't see the point in dropping the topics. If it went back to the one guest format then fine, they can just have five items to be judged but between three surely there has to be a theme to have to compare the choices.

Probably the biggest role Joanna had in the last year was in Channel 4's police drama No Offence.

I listen to his podcast and he is really funny BUT he keeps finding any excuse to sing. And he can't sing. His singing is so bad it's not even funny. Yet he genuinely thinks he can sing. He can't. At all. David Baddiel was the better vocalist on 'Three Lions' which really says something.

I don't like the loss of categories as it makes the comparisons utterly meaningless.
