Can a BT Vision+ HDD be halted (without throwing it against a wall) ?
Hi
Can some existing "black box" BT Vision+ owners tell me in which circumstances the HDD's motor runs? i.e. is it all the time there's mains power to the box, all the time the box is fully ON or only when it's playing/recording? If the default is "all the time the box is ON", is there a UI setting which would allow the HDD motor to rest (e.g. setting "Rewind Live TV: 0 minutes"). I don't like the irritating noise or accelerated wear of a HDD spinning continously. Regards |

The HDD does spin down after the box has been in standby for a while (provided its not recording). I wouldn't fret about the disk lifetime, I had a silver box from the beginning of Vision with no disk issues and then a black box for the last few years and they've each had a serious caning as a PVR because we almost never watch live TV. The silver box still works just fine when connected but the black one is quicker. Virtually everything is recorded and watched later. The disk runs permanently full i.e. it autodeletes old unprotected stuff to make way for the new stuff. If we don't make time to watch the programme before its deleted then hey-ho it obviously wasn't that important after all

Not that it's much help to the OP, but I had a silver box and never found it to be particularly noisy in operation. This is one for Stuntmaster really (No pressure SM)...
