Non Freesat mode
Howard
21-09-2011
Hi, I am about to receive my Humax PVR, very excited!
I would like to know about the non-Freesat mode. In particular,
1. How easy is it to switch to non-Freesat mode?e.g. tuning channels
2. How easy is it to switch between Freesat and non-Freesat mode?
3. Does it mess up the channel listing for Freesat channels?
4. Any other useful information regarding non-Freesat code would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you very much.

Select manual tune and scan using the default options. This leaves you in non-freesat mode and an extra menu entry in Settings STB Mode Freesat/Non Freesat.

You have no epg (only now/next) and recordings have to be manually started.

Reboot while in non-freesat allows recording HD content without encryption.

No effect on Freesat mode other than you can't record Freesat reservations whilst in non-freesat mode.

1) Very
2)Very
3)No
4)The only thing I can think of is if you have a recording scheduled for Freesat & are in non-Freesat mode the box will jump to Freesat to make the recording.

Agree with khakidrill - I wish that was so - earlier this week I was recording a movie in non-freesat mode and my Humax switched over halfway through to a non-important recording reservation on a Freesat channel that I had forgotten about so I lost my movie.

...and if you switch to non-Freesat mode during the 15 minutes before a Freesat recording is scheduled, you won't get the Freesat recording.

Cheers,
David.

Since the last update I have been able to go to Non Freesat right upto the last second before a freesat recording is due to start

Right, over the w/e I set up three types of recording...

1, Auto
2, Manually configuered
3, With 5 mins padding

All allowed me to access Non Freesat within 15 mins of the start times. It's not a problem for me but it is curious if no one else has it.

Nothing stops you going into non-freesat at any time. If you did so within 15 minutes of a series/accurate recording due to start the recording won't start (at least that's what used to happen) until you switch back again. I will set up a test later.

Set an accurate recording due to start in 10 minutes. Entered Freesat mode, recording did not start until I switched back to Freesat mode about 10 minutes after it should have started. This is the same behaviour as previous firmware versions.

Does anyone have a link to a list of the channels available on non-freesat? A lot of the channels are called random numbers and they don't seem to be in any order, I did find sky news somewhere. Are there any decent channels to be found?

Q1. List: http://www.lyngsat.com/eb1.html
Q2. Excluding the ones on the freesat epg and the encrypted ones - No (except some good radio channels).

Thanks. I had a quick scan through and nothing stood out as a good find really. I was hoping there might have been something interesting.

Sky News
(you really shouldn't read my politics from that suggestions! just that BBC News isn't really everything a 24 hours rolling new channel could be - on the few occasions when a normal person might want to watch one).

Cheers,
David.
