Sure you can cut a block of ice cream and put it between to wafers but thats not the same.

To me an Ice cream sandwich is like 2 over size bourbon cream biscuits, but instead of the bourbon filling it has a block of Ice Cream, very tasty.

Yeah in my local Tesco they sell Ben and Jerry's Cookie sandwiches. Which obviously consists of 2 big soft baked chocolate chip cookies with ice cream in the middle. They are lovely

When I was a kid in Scotland we used to get a 'Black Man' from the ice cream van - two chocolate coated nougat wafers with ice cream in between.

I think you have to ask for a 'Double Nougat' now...

Do you have bourbons in the States?

Ice cream wafers are as this article says, not as common in the UK as they were:

A Flake 99 was originally a wafer sandwich apparently, now a cone, so I suppose that's the general story.

There's one called Ice Break by Dale Farm, it's available in NI in shops but I'm sure you could buy them online from Tesco or possibly in some Tesco stores in England. It's exactly what you wanted btw, two bourbon biscuits with ice cream in the middle.

According to this the ice cream wafer sandwich was invented in Bolton:

I'm a bit sceptical.

Pretty much any ice cream shop or van in Northern Ireland will have a "slider" on their menu. Same thing.

Many years back the Ice Cream Wafer as it was then called was The Right Of Passage. It was the proof that now you were grown up and had to leave the cornet alone. It was tricky too for a new comer to this (so called) ice cream treat. At first it was easy but as you got going so did the ice cream as it would slip out of the sandwhich at a moments notice and boy did you feel a right pillock. Many a suit or white shirt has been spoiled by the wafer and a first time eater. There was a bit of getting your own back when you watched pensioners try to eat one on really hot day as it needs a certain speed that these folk just don't have, sorry, but it's so true.
Mister Softie used to sell oyster shells, I just remembered that.

Yeah they were nice. They had that marshmellow bit at the back of the shell and some had chocolate on the top.

I used to get what I called 'Ice cream sandwiches' from the local ice cream man, but they were just wafers, not bourbon biscuits. Ooh, I'm going to have to try the Ben and Jerry's ones though! Got such a craving now

I had one of these recently from one of those old style ice cream places. You know the kind....family business since 1904 kind of place. It brought back lots of childhood memories
