Sorry, I tried AOL browser because MSN is being really glitchy and my comp froze for an hour. I've had to take it apart, blow the dust out and wait for the fan to cool down.

That's probably what I'd have had to do in the days when I used MSN chat, lol

Aw I remember sneaking up at night to plug in the cable into the phone line Those were the not so amazing days of dial up. I made quite a few American friends in those chatrooms, in a way we all grew up together. To this day I wonder what they're all up to.

I used to frequent some very risque yahoo rooms before they got shut down. My behaviour was shocking!

The length and depth of my posts when I was slightly inebriated was huge.

Used to use mIRC myself, mainly frequented Star Trek chatrooms hence my user name.
Things I remember:

"Sorry I was in a whisper"
Playing WAV files.
Learning the art of nuking people you didn't like
ASCII art
Starting your own room just to get ops

I used chatrooms years ago. It was all...

"Hello X, have you seen Y?"
"No. How's it going, anyway?"
"Fine, thanks."

I swear, it was all crap like that. I dread to imagine what kind of husband could be acquired in such a manner.

Once, I entered a teenaged chatroom where every second post contained the term "OMG!" I told them I was a former United Nations weapon inspector seeking teenaged companionship.

How does one get the child porn, by the way?
What the hell kinda rooms were you entering?? I used it for a couple of years from 2000-2002 I guess. I met some interesting people. Some of whom I'm still in touch with. And you find rooms which contained adults who could hold a decent conversation. Good memories. At least there was conversation. Now it's all status updates and poking.

Miss the old chat rooms.

I used to have PIRCH 98, which is still on the go.

I was also into USENET, actually until quite recently.

I tried all these old chatrooms, they were all the same. I remember some place called talkcity.

But my favourite was playing MS Golf online. LS Links 2000. What a blast that was.

Yes I remember the "pop-ups"? I can't remember what they were called...ASCII art with a message and you'd type something like /pop <nameofpopup> $Dave

---... Dave is outta here ...---

or some shit like that.

I used to spend hours on MSN Chat. It was a lot of fun winding people up from behind my computer screen. I was new to the web and immature! As I recall, it got shut down, in the UK at least, after a girl was murdered by a man she met on there.

Wow I used the MSN chat rooms loads for a while. It even made the news when they were closed... But I remember that they weren't totally closed, just closed to ppl in the UK cos I had a couple of kiwi friends from chat who carried on being able to use them a long time after we no longer could. I guess they all git stopped eventually though.

I used aol chatrooms back in the day .The pub quiz one was the best ,I miss that ! Trying to type as fast as possible! Always asking for a quiz about friends

When I was at school ,it was all about lycos chat : & having a profile that played tinny music and was covered in flashing gifs ! Those were the days..
