Thanks, but tried that one already - both are WORKGROUP
//foxsat-hdr/media If that does not work then replace foxsat-hdr with the HDR's IP address. |

Hmmm - then try and map a network drive to:
//foxsat-hdr/media If that does not work then replace foxsat-hdr with the HDR's IP address. Tried both (incl the IP address) and no joy |

Presume you mean \\fox... rather than //fox...
Tried both (incl the IP address) and no joy Have you checked that samba is installed and running? (web-if service management), It would be very strange if it is running and the mapping a network drive to the ip address does not work. "no joy" is not very specific - please explain what the result / difficulty was. |

yes I did mean \\foxsat-hdr\media or \\ip address\media.

I am using 200Mbps Powerline adapters - I don't think these are the problem as FTP seems to connect OK and other packages (channel guide, media list etc) work fine. Oh and, by the way, many thanks again for your time and effort in trying to help me out |

Very strange it may be but that is exactly what seems to be happening - samba working OK according to the web-if service management page (I have tried restarting it from this point) but not mappable from Windows Explorer or visible when I do a network scan (although it is visible as a media player).

sorry to hijack this post but......
... I have just downloaded the raydon package. i get the part about upgrading the box and getting to the web interface. But reading the readme.txt is says there are various programs that can be downloaded Tinyftp VSFTP Telnet Dropbear Twonkymedia Mediatomb Samba what do these programs do? Are they all required? all i want to do ( at the moment) is copy sd files from my humax to my laptop and enable watching of programs from my laptop over the network. which is the best (easiest) option to do this Thanks |

Try turning any firewall you have off completely. I know other aspects of networking are working OK, but sometimes you can get weird effects, with some port numbers being blocked and others not. It's easy to do and worth a try.

What size USB memory are you using?
There are known problems with USB memory larger than 1GB. I use a 512MB. |

After this and pressing media is there a usb1 icon at the top of the media list ? If not try a different stick. Found one that works, reformat from windows (right click in Explorer). Copy the .hdf to the pen. Check the filename carefully (make sure it's not xxxx.hdf.hdf, windows suppresses file extensions unless you turn off the feature) |

OK - on your PC run cmd.exe and post the results of each of the following
net view ping foxsat-hdr ping ipaddress Lastly try again with mapping the ip address - Don't search for it just choose a drive and enter \\ipaddress\media. Net view - just hung after typing this in Ping results: Pinging foxsat-hdr [192.168.2.9] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.2.9: bytes=32 time=13ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.2.9: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.2.9: bytes=32 time=6ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.2.9: bytes=32 time=7ms TTL=64 Ping statistics for 192.168.2.9: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 5ms, Maximum = 13ms, Average = 7ms Pinging 192.168.2.9 with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.2.9: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.2.9: bytes=32 time=6ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.2.9: bytes=32 time=6ms TTL=64 Reply from 192.168.2.9: bytes=32 time=8ms TTL=64 Ping statistics for 192.168.2.9: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 5ms, Maximum = 8ms, Average = 6ms Tried mapping drive again - came up with "Attempting to connect..." and just hung with this displayed (5 mins so far) |

There's something weird with
Windows 7..
Probably due to MS dumbing down the interface and "hiding" what's really happening. I have several W7 boxes here, but my main machine refuses to let me add a network place for the Hummy. FTP - fine Telnet Fine Ping - fine Web interface fine. All the other boxes immediately identified the Hummy, even though it wasn't in the same workgroup. Checked / crosschecked all the network options - no differences in the other boxes. Spent hours on it. Given up now as FTP will do the job (OK it downloads the files rather than seeing them as "local"). So my message it it may not be you - probably some hidden parameter lost in the depths of Mr. Gates labyrinthine software. |

You problem is very odd - I am especially puzzled by your lack of response to a windows net view command. I think this implies a network connectivity problem - what happens if you just leave the command running (it must time out some time)
C:\Users\cmdadmin>net view System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found. C:\Users\cmdadmin> |

The only thought that remains is security / firewall software on the PC.
Does the command work with both HDR's off? The command works fine when it's off. Can't see anything obvious with Firewall (std Windows) or security (MS Security Essentials) settings |
