The new channel editor was not quite ready (covered in the 2.5 thread)

Wow, the 'ultimate prize' achieved so soon.

Today I successfully scheduled and recorded Batman on ITV4 at 10:15 from my office, which is several miles from my home.

Altogether an amazing piece of work. Many thanks to you guys.

I guess the only mystery is if the box is capable of this level of functionality why don't Humax integrate it within the standard system software?

Hi Repassac - just to let you know I have just installed a new router to replace my ageing one and the Samba share is working fine now (along with a number of other niggles now cleared up and a much more stable/faster network!)

Thanks again for all your help

So... can you please talk us through how you did that

Posting links to other sites is tricky. I would seacrh for:
Accessing your HDR from the Internet Draft ) (with v4 of the media bundle installed)

Very sound advice. I hope it works for you as well as it has worked for me. REPASSAC's instructions are quite straight forward.

Fortunately, although my ISP only provides a dynamic IP address, it only changes when the router is rebooted. This has allowed me to use the fixed (static) IP method. Just as well really, as my router does not let me change the default dynamic DNS service provider it came with, which is no longer free.

You can use other clients to update your DDNS service of choice. Relies on having a PC on at all times though.

Hadn't thought of that, and indeed, a quick search does finds several. Any recommendations?

Thanks.

Depends on your DDNS service. I've always just used what they recommend, usually use DynDNS which sems to be default on most routers and most recently DNS-O-Matic with DynDNS and OpenDNS which I have working with DD-WRT on my Buffalo routers.

DynDNS is the default on my Netgear DG834G router but appears to be no longer free and appears to be the only one offered from the drop down list. This is only a bit of a hobby of mine so I'm not going to go for a subscription.

I think I would be more inclined to buy a small UPS just to supply the router to ensure that it hangs on to the IP address in the event of a power cut (which are not that infrequent in this part of the world).

Are you sure? I still use DynDNS free and I haven't noticed anything not working recently.

Looking at the DynDNS website I am not in the least bit sure but mainly confused.

There seems to have been a relatively recent change in charging policy whilst maintaining pre-registered free accounts. It's not clear whether they are still taking new free accounts under different terms.

TBH I do seem to remember the free account option not being totally obvious. I wasn't signing up for a free account though so didn't take too much notice. Think you might be right though, I can't seem to see a free option anymore.

It would appear that that you now have to take out a trial of dns pro and then cancel.

Just a quick question about this bundle.

Can I use it to access a DLNA NAS drive?

Graham.

I presume you mean on the HDR - then the answer is no - the package includes a DLNA server not a client. Clients are easy to find for a PC.

Cheers for that REPASSAC.

That's a shame. The Freeview Humax has the client built in!

Does this mean that there is an opprtunity to add this as part of this fantastic package at a later date?

I very much doubt it. It depends on what you expect from a client.
The ability to transcode for example is cpu intensive and is normally handled or supported by a specialist chipset.
Presently all of the firmware add-ons are simply add-ons, to the linux environment. The Humax settop application is untouched and has total control of the UI.

I think you're right.

Currently testing no-ip free with their dynamic update client as I have a test bed pc connected to the home network that does very little otherwise.

I'll report on progress.

Hi,

I've just installed this and it's very impressive. However I have a small problem: when I try to access the EPG Now / Next nothing shows up although the EPG is fully populated on the HDR. Also, and probably leading from that problem, when I try the EPG search the following error message comes up :

Runtime Error: /opt/var/mongoose/lib/epg.class:517: no such table: epg in procedure 'epg' called at file "epg7day.jim", line 91 in procedure 'epg' called at file "/opt/var/mongoose/lib/epg.class", line 522 at file "/opt/var/mongoose/lib/epg.class", line 517

Any thoughts ?

Thats quite a large problem.
Can I ask you to check the firmware version on the settings page - If you have just downloaded this should be 4.0.6.
Can you also check what free space you have on the HDR when Pictures or Music are selected.
This condition has been seen before and a re-init has been the quickest way to resolve it so far. However very low space on the Music and Pictures partition could also be a possible cause - however the space requirements for the epg and all the other packages is quite modest.

To re-init -you need to delete one file on the HDR /opt/etc/DO_NOT_DELETE_THIS_FILE
using ftp (or telnet if you know how).
Then reboot and you will be back to the basic web interface

Hi,

The firmware is 4.0.6

The machine is virtually new and has only less than 8 Gb of music & no photos on it.

I haven't clue how to use ftp or telnet.

Hmmmm.

The web interface has stopped working, for no apparent reason.

'Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 192.168.0.X.'

It's been perfectly O.K. until today. Weird.
