@ REPASSAC

OK I've found out about ftp and done as you suggested. And it now works perfectly.

What a fantastic piece of work, many, many thanks to all involved.

run cmd.exe and see if you get a response to entering:
ping 192.168.0.X.

If you are using DHCP on the Humax, check in HDR setup it's ip address (It could have changed). It is a good idea to reserve the ip address in the router lan settings (address reservations or somthing like it)

Just re-flashed with 4.0.6 from 4.0.4 with no joy.

Panic over.

Deleting the DO-NOT-DELETE-THIS-FILE trick has recovered the situation.

The Humax does have a reserved address with the router and was accessable on a Windows PC. Strange stuff.

Mega thx to all involved in doing this fantastic project. It's great to use on a web interface and with the added functionality of scheduling from anywhere( I suggested this a while back ) I now have the box set to auto on/ off and can login to the box at work

I said I'd report back and this is progress so far.

The problem is that the router only supports DynDNS as the DDNS service provider.

DynDNS requires a subscription service which has then to be cancelled to use their free service, something I'm not keen to do.

No-ip provides a free service for up to 3 hosts without signing up to a paid service first. They also supply a DNS update client which runs on Windows, Linux or Mac. However, I worked out that having the desktop PC on all the time costs about £6.50 per month. Not a huge sum, but irritating nonetheless.

I currently have the HDR coming on for a couple of hours a day on the timer, just like Zub. The nice solution would be to have the PC start up from hibernation about 10 mins before the box turns on and updates the DDNS IP address and continues to do so for the period the HDR is turned on.

I found this application, WOSB, to be the answer, allowing scheduled start up and shutdown (to hibernation) of the PC with the DDNS update client running as a service, every day at a set time.

I understand it may be possible to do this directly through the windows scheduler but I haven't looked at that option yet.

Hope this helps.

Don't spend a lots of time on this approach - I may have some news later this week.

It's pretty much already done, and it works. However, it does feel like a bit of a cludge, so a more elegant solution would be more than welcome.

Do you use Monster900 at another place *where most package posts are?). If so I will PM you from there.

Just looking at the posts there - I see it is you. Expect a PM with good news later today or in the morning.

It is indeed me in both places.

I look forward to the good news.

Thanks

Monster,

I have the same limitation - Talktalk Echolife Router - I signed up with DynDNS for the free months trial and cancelled it 2 weeks later - I have kept my now free account and it works.

Hopefully Repassac's PM today will cancel the need for this anyway!

Ebuyer were doing some Linksys N series routers for £21. Buy one, stick DD-WRT on it then use any DDNS service. Also get a decent router out of the deal, cheaper than leaving a PC on and simpler.

There is now a router independent solution to this problem which does not require a PC to be running either.

Details are posted in the other place.

Have done a clean download, unzipped the rar files, used a 2GB FAT32 file system stick, loaded on to the root folder with nothing else on it, FAT32 file system into the front port, tried switching off at the back. The stick lights up, word boot appears but no numbers letter or loading bar.

Help please?

Assuming it is named correctly - prepare another stick.
It is a common problem - The loader is quite basic.

In my experience small (256mb), cheap (free), USB sticks seem to work best for this purpose.

Have you kept you finger on standby?

Yes, eventually it boots to the previous channel.
Are there sticks smaller than 1gb?

I've used a sandisk 8gb stick and never had any problems upgrading. Just make sure the files are on the root of the stick and not in a directory and they are the only files on the stick. I've also seen 256mb sticks for sale cheap on ebay.

Is anyone thinking of developing a Foxsat app for android which would work in a similar way to the Sky+ app. I'm afraid I don't have the expertise to do it myself but I think it would be really useful.

Superb work. Thanks to all involved in developing the bundle.

Something that I came across this morning might help others when they install the software. I was using a brand new SanDisk stick, from which I had deleted the software that comes preinstalled (their secure file locker software and the “partner” programme – AKA a chance to buy some software from other companies) so that all that was on the stick was the .hdf file.

The Humax accepted the stick and I was able to switch to it in the Media table, so I knew it was one that was compatible. But when it came to the update I held the Standby button in, the HDR booted, the channel name was briefly displayed, and then the box went straight into standby again. Tried all sorts like unplugging the network cable, but the fix was to reformat the memory stick – presumably there's “hidden stuff” on the stick that gets in the way of the Humax using it. The update flew the first time after the reformat.

Just need to get my head around connecting from the 'net and the Channel Editor and I'll be a happy boy.

Regards,

Paul.

Can I ask a basic question please?
I have searched all over but can't find an answer.
If I install the file server bundle will it wipe all personal settings? If so, is it possible to back up some things first?
1 - the recording schedule
2 - set up preferences i.e; volume settings in the menu etc
3 - non-freesat channel settings/order

Can someone also confirm that recorded programs already on the disk will not be affected?

For info, the HDR is running the latest version of the official software.

Any response much appreciated.
Pingu
