If I install the file server bundle will it wipe all personal settings? If so, is it possible to back up some things first?
1 - the recording schedule
2 - set up preferences i.e; volume settings in the menu etc
3 - non-freesat channel settings/order

Can someone also confirm that recorded programs already on the disk will not be affected?

For info, the HDR is running the latest version of the official software.

Any response much appreciated.

(a) You can not backup the HDR's settings before installing the modified firmware.
(b) Installing raydon's firmware will not wipe the HDR's settings.
(c) Existing recordings will not be affected.

Install v4.0.6 of raydon's firmware, which also includes Humax firmware v1.00.17.

Something that I came across this morning might help others when they install the software. I was using a brand new SanDisk stick, from which I had deleted the software that comes preinstalled (their secure file locker software and the “partner” programme – AKA a chance to buy some software from other companies) so that all that was on the stick was the .hdf file.

The Humax accepted the stick and I was able to switch to it in the Media table, so I knew it was one that was compatible. But when it came to the update I held the Standby button in, the HDR booted, the channel name was briefly displayed, and then the box went straight into standby again. Tried all sorts like unplugging the network cable, but the fix was to reformat the memory stick – presumably there's “hidden stuff” on the stick that gets in the way of the Humax using it. The update flew the first time after the reformat.

Just need to get my head around connecting from the 'net and the Channel Editor and I'll be a happy boy.

Regards,

Paul.”

Thanks Paul sounds logical. Will try that

An updated version of the channel editor is now available - check for the update in package management after updating the list from the internet - for full details of this much improved version - see another place.

Why's it all cloak & dagger? Where's this mysterious "other place"?

I think that is not permitted to post links to competing forums. It is where all the other bundle threads are.

Might leave this update as someone seems to of reported a bug with it already, the old one which I use is stable.

I think the problem is elsewhere - I have used the update for the last month and it is solid (unlike the previous version).

Thanks for this brilliant addition to the bundle. I've read the post elsewhere about the amount of work that has gone into the new channel editor, and am very grateful that people are prepared to put this level of effort it to make a good box even better.

Regards,

Paul.

What are the differences between the old editor and the new one? Thanks.

What's Different about this Release?
There are two key differences between this and the previous version of the Channel Editor:

1. This release is fully integrated into the Foxsat HDR Web interface making it platform independent (the old Windows-only executable has been retired)
2. Channel edits are now applied as delta changes to the default channel configuration meaning that changes made during the housekeeping process will be retained (new/removed Freesat channels for example)

I purchased a Foxsat HDR yesterday and am very impressed so far, a big big thank you is well and truly deserved for all who have worked on the web access firmware - its working a treat!

I have a couple of quick questions I couldn't find by searching FAQ's etc:

1) Am I correct in assuming I can't access the web interface while the HDR is in standby? or is there a "less standby" option which still allows ethernet access without leaving the box fully on?

2) How can I set (or obtain the default) SSH username & password?. I notice you can set a user/pass for the web interface but I wasn't going to bother since my network is only accessible via VPN from the outside world.

Thanks in advance

1. Yes you are correct - the network adaptor is powered down in standby to meet the sub 1w requirement.

3. "Dropbear SSH Server
A secure alternative to telnet. Dropbear uses the system accounts so login is as per vsftpd. During installation RSA and DSS host keys have to be generated, so don't be alarmed if the install seems to take longer than usual."

I use telnet but the vsftpd notes say
"If you install vsftpd instead of tinyftp then system accounts are used for login. There are two accounts available and you can login with either. Please note that names and passwords are case sensitive.

The first account mirrors that of TinyFTP.
User name: 'HumaxFTP', Password '0000'
Logging in with these credentials will drop you directly into the /media folder.

More experienced users may want to login using the root account.
User name 'root' Password 'root'
This opens in the systems root folder, so you will need to navigate to /media to access your recordings.

Passwords for these two accounts can be changed by issuing a 'passwd' command via a telnet session. i.e. enter 'passwd HumaxFTP' or 'passwd root' and follow the prompts."

These notes are from http://foxsat-hdr/docs/faq/Custom_Fi....x_ReadMe.html
reached via the web interface documentaion link.

By default no security is set.

If you have forgotten what you set it to via the web interface then try (with ftp or telnet for example) renaming mongoose.conf to mongoose.confx and mongoose.conf.old to mongoose.conf then stop and restart mongoose.

I see the new beta 1.00.20 software is now available for download:
http://beta.humaxonline.co.uk/downloads/foxsat-hdr

Will the raydon software be ported to this version, or wait till it's released OTA?

Cheers

raydon is away from home until Monday - he will look at it then - needs to be some testing done first - I would expect to that he will release an update before it goes OTA.

According to the DTG schedule, version 1.00.17 has a last broadcast date of 11-04-2012 so I am assuming that 1.00.20 will be OTA from that point onwards.

Would be extremely convenient if a modified firmware based on 1.00.20 was available a couple of days in advance before 1.00.20 actually goes OTA.

New updates have been loaded into the repository for updates concerning:
- channel editor (fixes Humax change to BST from GMT)
- epg (various changes in preparation for 1.00.20 and resulting from changes to the channel editor.)

These changes apply to firmware 1.00.17 & 1.00.20 when the new package is released (after the OTA is scheduled or released)

Please go go Package Management - click "Update package list from internet" the select the "Upgrades" tab.

raydon is on Holiday at present (almost anyway) and I expect that Adrianf36 will release version 1.00.20 (4.0.7) in the middle of next week (assuming that 1.00.20 is being OTA'd.

Thanks for the information, REPASSAC.

I've just updated the web interface on the HDR.

Going (slightly) off topic. I have a FOX T2 (with af123's modified firmware) and I note that in his latest web interface you can alter the folder that the series link is set to use. I like this feature and wondered if it could be implemented on the HDR web interface. REPASSAC, I assume you are friendly (or know who maintains the HDR web interface - Adrianf36?) and wondered if you could pass my feature request on?

My question to Adrian and his reply

Hi Adrian,

Please see feature request -
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...&postcount=148

Does the foxsat have this data - never seen it myself.

D.

No, I don't think so. As far as I'm aware the folder is the name of the series. I do not know of a way of changing it. The "series name" is held in reserve.info but not sure if this is for display purposes or whether it's used for the folder name. And we know that settop often updates reserve.info if it gets new epg information etc.

Whilst it may be possible, for me it would be a very low priority to investigate I'm afraid.

Regards, Adrian.
