S2 or Xperia Arc?
Bit of previous, I used to be a Nokia fan until I saw the light and went Sony. I say saw the light, I washed my Nokia and had to make do with a mates 2nd hand Sony but lovedit. My last 4 phones have been Sony and they have all been amazing (bar 1).
Currently I have the W995 which I stupidly got on a 24 month contract, 2 months before the smart phone price crash. I can upgrade in December so am on the lookout now. My heart is telling me to go Xperia as I love Sony but am worried I am being blinkered by my Sony love and am hearing the S2 is possibly the best smart phone out there (not interested in Apple, and refuse to give them any of my cash). Technology wise they seem pretty similar, the major difference being the CPU. The Xperia has one core, the S2 had 2. Which one should I go for? or is there something out before December which will surpass both these? Ta |

Although I wanted a S2 the deal on the Arc from E2Save worked out at £20 a month for 12 months (zero for the phone £30 per month and £90 back through redemption and £30 back through Quidco). The S2 was £30 per month plus £99 for the phone, both deals are on Talkmobile. I think the Arc was so cheap because the Arc S is out soon - basically the same phone but with an overclocked processor (1.4gHz compared to 1gHz).
Yes the S2 is better in everyway except the camera but the Arc is still a good phone and SE have learnt their lesson from the X10 (I had one of these for a short period) and have been releasing updates at regular intervals. One advantage of getting the phone from Talkmobile is it comes unlocked and sim free so there is no delay in waiting for the network provider to get their arse into gear to release the update. As you don't update to december things will change then but I do recommend these 12 month deals with Talkmobile (they use Vodafones network). Another one to consider is the Xperia Ray - smaller screen but metal body. |

The S2 is a superior phone IMO, however, if your heart is set on the Arc then go for it, it's a very good phone. At the end of the day you want something that is good for everything, including your soul....

Earlier this year I had the option of either the Arc or the Galaxy S and went with Samsung over the Sony. The Samsung just got better reviews plus I played with them both in Carphone Warehouse and the Samsung just appeared to be a better unit. Plus friends with recent Sony Android phones have constantly been complaining about the slowness of Sony when it comes to OS updates.
Anyway, I'm very happy with the Galaxy S and the S2 is supposed to be even better... Go and play with them in a phone shop, see what you think. |
