This great single peaked at no.12 in 1969 and is always worth hearing:-

It's been a fair while since I last contributed to this thread, so methinks it's about time I posted again.

As I've previously stated often enough I like any post I make to this thread to have some sort of theme, and this post is no exception. I've decided not to divulge today's theme, because you don't exactly need the brain of Albert Einstein to work out what it is.

Manfred Mann - 5-4-3-2-1 (1964)
I like most Manfred Mann singles, but this one, their third release and their first ever hit, is probably my favourite of the lot. As far as I know, this is the only song about the Trojan War to ever make the UK Top Ten.

Wilson Pickett - 634-5789 (1966)
Marvellous track by a sixties soul legend.

The Troggs - 66-5-4-3-2-1 (1966)
Reg died fairly recently, so this is a somewhat belated tribute to him. This fine track was the B-side of Any Way That You Want Me.

Keith - 98.6 (1967)
If I were to list my top ten favourite intros then 98.6 by Keith would almost certainly be included, and if I were to list my top ten favourite one hit wonders then 98.6 by Keith would almost certainly be included on that too. Fabulous track.

I love 60's music. 50's and 60's was the best era for music in my opinion

This decade had it all for me with Pirate Radio and instrumental bands such as:
The Shadows
The Ventures
The Spotnicks
The Tornados
The Chantays
The Surfaris
With a small transister radio almost always tuned to my favourite radio station, Big L 266, I thought I had all I needed to get through anything life had to offer.

Mention of all the above great bands has really put me on the mood for some sixties instrumentals, so here are three, not by any these bands, just real favourites of mine:-

Henry Mancini - Baby Elephant Walk (1962)

Manfred Mann - Why Should We Not (1963)

I tried for ages to get "Cast Your Fate to The Wind" and seemed to be chasing a lost cause until I came across an album called "Instrumental Gold" a 2cd set and on cd1 track ten there it was by "Sounds Orchestral" plus another track I wanted "Love Is Blue" by Paul Mauriot".
In case it is of interest:Music & Memories MMD1064, 1967.

The thread's getting very close to the bottom of the page, so a bump is what seems to be required.

Bump.

Last Friday I posted a non-hit by David and Jonathan to the the Rare 60's thread, so I think it's right that I should post their only ever top ten hit to this thread, and here it is:-

David and Jonathan - Lovers Of The World Unite (1966)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnJzWjtw6vw

David and Jonathan were in actuality Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway, and were better known as a songwriting team than as a singing duo. Here are four big hit songs of the sixties written by Cook and Greenaway:-

The Fortunes - You've Got Your Troubles (1965)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omouwax-4uQ

Whistling Jack Smith - I Was Kaiser Bill's Batman (1967)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQQ5sEOhbjQ

Gene Pitney - Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart (1967)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMQc8HthUFE

Blue Mink - Melting Pot (1969)

Same title, different melody, a minor hit for Britain's most famous instrumental group:-

4. The Everly Brothers - Ebony Eyes
To say this song is corny is a real understatement and had anyone else recorded it I would utterly detest it. However, it was recorded by the Everly Brothers, who could sing the phone book and make it sound wonderful, so naturally I absolutely love this track!

The Everly Brothers - Love is Strange (1965)
You can’t have a sibling themed post and leave out these guys. This track is a superb, but I tend to say that about virtually every track the Everly Brothers recorded.

The Everly Brothers - When Will I Be Loved (1960)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmBux...eature=related

The Everly Brothers - Crying In The Rain (1962)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3U3xWcDicGo

1. The Everly Brothers - The Price Of Love
The Everly Brothers are my favourite ever musical duo (marginally ahead of Simon and Garfunkel). The Price of Love is my second favourite Everly Brothers track after the brilliant Crying In The Rain.

We've had no shortage of great Everly Brothers tracks on the thread. Here's a few more:-

The Everly Brothers - Let It Be Me (1960)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NaIpXdo4KvE

The Everly Brothers - Walk Right Back (1961)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORbgJxhf7eg

The Everly Brothers - Temptation (1961)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-Ow8Hb3MZE

The Everly Brothers - No One Can Make My Sunshine Smile (1962)

I love the Everlys.

Their heyday, of course, was the late fifties and early sixties, but in subsequent years the two brothers didn't get on very well and it was rare for them to perform together live, so I count myself as privileged to have seen them perform together live on two such rare occasions, once in the eighties and once in the early noughties. Both gigs were superb.

Bump.

The thread is getting dangerously close to the bottom of Page 1, and we can't have that, can we?

Here are three tracks by Anthony Newley, who at first listen seems an unlikely influence on David Bowie, but apparently Bowie cites him a major influence:-

Anthony Newley - Why? (1960)

Anthony Newley - Strawberry Fair (1960)

I expect that most of you will have scene the separate forums created for 1965 and 1966 on the main music section.

Anyway, when I did my top 100 of the 60s last June I suggested I'd do a chart from 1968 one Bank Holiday this year. I now reckon I will on the August Bank Holiday! I long considered 1968 to be my fave musical year from before my time.

Somebody Help Me ~ the Spencer Davis Group.

I like this and another of their hits Gimme Some Loving. A version of Somebody Help Me is/was used as the theme to The Royal, currently being repeated on ITV3. I like the instrumental version at the end of the show, but couldn't find this on Youtube.

A whole load of birthdays.

Paul McCartney (of the Beatles) was 71 three days ago.

Brian Wilson (of the Beach Boys) was 71 yesterday.

Ray Davies (of the Kinks) is 69 today.

Happy Birthday to Ray and a belated Happy Birthday to Paul and Brian.

So after all these years the Stones have finally played Glastonbury. Even if the BBC had screened the whole gig rather than just the second half of it, we would still not have been treated to these three classics:-

The Rolling Stones - Not Fade Away (1964)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pt_zum97kjE

The Rolling Stones - Little Red Rooster (1964)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuiTperxZnw
