This would make a good pub music quiz question:-
Which No.1 hit song was co-written by a Vice President of the United States of America? Answer:- "It's All In The Game" performed by Tommy Edwards. For more details about this song please click on this link:- http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2145 Tommy Edwards' version of the song went to the top of the British charts in 1958, so I can't post it here as it's not quite the right decade. Never mind, five years later a very good version by Cliff made no.2 in the British charts, and that version was in the right decade, so here it is:- Cliff Richard - It's All In The Game (1963) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yq0db8em60 |

It's been more than a fortnight since the last post, so I think the thread needs a bump.
Fellow Doctor Who fans will know that an actor named Peter Capaldi has been chosen to replace Matt Smith in the lead role, so here's a great song co-written by a chap named Jim Capaldi:- Traffic - Paper Sun (1967) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_r-55T8T9C4 |

The thread is dangerously near the bottom of the page, so yet again I am bumping the thread.
Bump. Who did put the bump in the bump bump bump bump bump? ![]() Barry Mann - Who Put The Bomp (1961) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXmsLe8t_gg |

Before deciding my top 100 songs of the 60s, I anticipated 1968 being my fave year. I think I had a soft spot for 1968 as my nos 1, 3 and 7 came from then. In practice, 1967 was the most represented year with no fewer than 22 entries! I guess the variety of music must have hit an all-time high then. Indeed, about 7 years ago Radio 2 did a survey of people's favourite year for music, and Simon Mayo broadcast the results one Bank Holiday, when 1967 was revealed as the public's most popular year for music.
About 1968, I reckon on deciding my fave 30 or 40 songs from that year one Bank Holiday next year. My nos 21-30 Bruce Channel:- Keep On Dave Clark Five:- The Red Balloon Dave Dee Dozy Beeky Mick & Titch:- The Legend of Xanadu Doors:- Hello I Love You Gun:- Race With the Devil Hollies:- Listen to Me Johnny Johnson & the Bandwagon:- Breaking Down the Walls of Heartache Tom Jones:- Delilah Alan Price Set:- Don’t Stop the Carnival Otis Redding:- Hard to Handle My nos 11-20 Canned Heat:- On the Road Again Cream:- Sunshine of Your Love Julie Driscoll, Brian Auger & the Trinity:- This Wheel’s on Fire Manfred Mann:- Fox on the Run Paul Mauriat & his Orchestra:- Love is Blue Esther & Abi Ofarim:- Cinderella Rockafella Don Partridge:- Rosie Rolling Stones:- Jumping Jack Flash Dusty Springfield:- Son of a Preacher Man The Who:- Magic Bus My nos 4-10 Beatles:- Lady Madonna Beatles:- Hey Jude Bonzo Dog Doodah Band:- I’m the Urban Spaceman Reparata & the Delrons:- Captain of Your Ship Status Quo:- Pictures of Matchstick Men R Dean Taylor:- Gotta See Jane Tremeloes:- Suddenly You Love Me My top 3 3 Small Faces:- Lazy Sunday 2 Mary Hopkin:- Those Were the Days 1 Beach Boys:- Do It Again |

Dave Clark Five:- The Red Balloon I like the vast majority of the tracks in your Top 30, but the inclusion of the above track in it indicates to me that you have not heard this differently titled original version, which as far as I'm concerned is far superior:- Raymond Froggatt - Callow La Vita (1968) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7i8bCbMBU5o |

Veteran Broadcaster, David Jacobs, died today aged 87.
RIP. With regard to sixties music, David Jacobs is best known for presenting the TV pop show "Juke Box Jury". Here's that show's theme tune:- The John Barry Seven Plus Four - Hit And Miss (1960) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_2lqnTuxjg |

On a brighter note I'm pleased to say that the Seekers are touring again after Judiths illness and that she continues to recover...
In tribute I'm re posting this link to the complete farewell show broadcast in 1968 on the BBC. Enjoy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XR34gwnFMI |

Let's start with the King of the Twangy Guitar, who on this great track appears to be being out-twanged by an orchestra:- Duane Eddy - Because They`re Young (1960) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKm2_67xtVs Quote:

I suddenly notice that none of us have added to this thread recently. Well, I have some news with a strong 60s connection. I decided my top 40 songs from 2004-13 today, and these included a certain Sir Paul McCartney with New, from 2013. Considering that, among other achievements, I Feel Fine (from 1964) became my no 2 song from the 60s, this must make Macca my favourite long-term musician of my life!

Something slightly different, a short newsreel item "Tribute To Disc Stars of 1963", some big names of the time, a look inside HMV Oxford Street shop and finally the EMI factory.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xakaTD_Iiw0 To think even the youngest shown at work on that film will now be a pensioner......

Marianne Faithfull - As Tears Go By http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHUQuD7ZzYg
Marianne Faithfull had four top ten hit singles during the sixties. I'm surprised to find that only "As Tears Go By" (see above) has been featured in this thread. Here are those other three hits:- Marianne Faithfull - Come and Stay with Me (1965) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Qmq_KDKu8Y Marianne Faithfull - This Little Bird (1965) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyfPiKoypxQ Marianne Faithfull - Summer Nights (1965) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wO_LcE9c57Q |

Two tracks by the Beatles, two tracks by the Stones, two tracks by the Kinks and two tracks by the Beach Boys, some or all of which may have been posted before, but if so are worth hearing again and (most importantly) will stop this thread from dropping off Page 1.

I like all your choices JF, except that I have not heard the first Kinks song you mention. Mind you, last year another Kinks song Set Me Free came to mean more to me.
