I like all your choices JF, except that I have not heard the first Kinks song you mention. Mind you, last year another Kinks song Set Me Free came to mean more to me.
"Where Have All The Good Times Gone" was the "B" side of the top ten single "Till The End Of The Day", but it's such a good track that had it been the "A" side I think it would also have made the top ten. |

Oh dear! The thread has dropped to Page 2 once more.
Bump time yet again! An almost forgotten top five hit from the very first year of the decade:- Footsteps - Steve Lawrence (1960) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZJbH0c0qYY A much better track (imo) that was a top ten hit for his wife two years later:- Yes My Darling Daughter - Eydie Gorme (1962) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdtxRR3uDPE A top three hit the following year for husband and wife together with what is probably the best known of the three tracks in this post:- I Want To Stay Here - Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme (1963) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeH-Su-_EPE |

I thought I'd bump the thread by listing all the Christmas No. 1's of the sixties, starting with the one I like the most and ending with the one I like the least. There's nothing particularly Christmassy about any of them, but some would say that's a good thing.
1. I Want To Hold Your Hand - The Beatles (1963) 2. Moon River - Danny Williams (1961) 3. Lily The Pink - The Scaffold (1968) 4. Day Tripper / We Can Work It Out - The Beatles (1965) 5. I Feel Fine - The Beatles (1964) 6. Hello Goodbye - The Beatles (1967) 7. Return To Sender - Elvis Presley (1962) 8. I Love You - Cliff Richard (1960) 9. Green, Green Grass of Home - Tom Jones (1966) 10. Two Little Boys - Rolf Harris (1969) Your comments on the merits or otherwise of these Christmas No. 1's are welcome. |

On The Show that Time Forgot on Tameside Radio this afternoon, Mike Wallbank did Vintage Newsround Tameside from this time in 1968. It must be one of my favourite times of year for music from 1968, as 6 of the 8 songs he played were within my top 30 songs from 1968, as decided on the August Bank Holiday 2013.
The exceptions were Beach Boys:- Darling (but Do It Again is my favourite song from 1968 and of all-time!) Manfred Mann:- The Mighty Quinn (but Fox on the Run was among my favourites) The 6 I liked in particular were Dave Dee Dozy Beaky Mick & Titch:- The Legend of Xanadu Tremeloes:- Suddenly You Love Me Status Quo:- Pictures of Matchstick Men Esther & Abi Ofarim:- Cinderella Rockefella Don Partridge:- Rosie Beatles:- Lady Madonna |

It's been eighteen months since the last post, so definitely time to bump this thread.
Lovers of early sixties (and late fifties) music might be interested to know that on BBC-4 this evening there is a documentary about the Everly Brothers at 9pm followed by one about Billy Fury at 10pm. Both programmes are repeats but certainly worth seeing again. |

I watched both of those as I hadn't seen them before. Saw the Everlys in 1993.

Happy New Year everyone.
The New Year's Honours have been awarded and I am delighted to say that it is now Sir Ray Davies and Sir Ken Dodd, so I now have an excuse to bump the thread with an obvious one from the Kinks and a not so obvious one from Doddy. The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset (1967) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-D9xcZgKX4 Ken Dodd - Still (1963) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b4F0kq8GJzQ |
