PVR80 still not getting all channels
I am having to rescan every morning to get all the channels back, some days I lose ITV1, Ch4, ch5, itv4, picktv, challenge and a few others.
Other days it is just itv3 and challenge, 5* and 5 usa and challenge with all the other channels there, it is very frustrating for my my mother as she has to call me to tell her what to do. I have done a rescan without the ariel in to delete all channels (that didn't work) so did a rescan as from straight out of box and no luck. Probably means it is time to get another but which one, She doesn't have an HD tv so HD compatibility is not important but she does record a fair bit, money is a bit tight so anything under £100 is good (cheaper is better) and must be availlable at one of the big stores (argos, dixons etc) as she wont buy online. Thanks for any input you can give. PS she is getting signal from Emley Moor if that helps |

The channel list in NVRAM is limited to 100 channels maximum. A way around this is to simply perform an automatic channel scan, and then delete unwanted channels (so that you have 100 or under).
The box has no trouble with more than 100 in the channel list while scanning and the box is left powered up or in standby... Regards |

Its PVRs looks a lot easier to use http://www.helpscheme.co.uk/en/formats and if she gets the help towards the cost, it won't be too far over a £100 budget. Take her present one back if it's still under guarantee or sell it for her with the rider that it is better suited to Freeview Lite areas! I would recommend the HV-250 for mum as it can cope with lots of channels and overspilling signals and she might be able to pick one up at her local independent electrical store but if she is dead agin going online, you can find TVOnics Contact details for her here for stockists http://www.tvonics.com/contacts or join the discussion on the official TVOnics thread here on DS. |

gastro, in reference to your previous post in your other thread, the PVR80 is indeed a Vestel clone, and more specifically the T810 model. StoppingService is correct in what he says about power consumption on this model, and you can find more details on the disappearing channels problem at http://www.vestelpvr.futaura.co.uk/dso.php. You just need to delete some unwanted channels, such as the the adult, topuptv and encrypted ones like Gold, Home, ESPN, Sky Sports, etc. Basically, the box is rebooting at 3am every night to check for software updates which is when the channels get lost, but I would recommend leaving this enabled and just delete some channels.

Deleting unwatched or unwatchabe channels is a good tip in any event! Who needs clutter, even if it is just a channel link?

Thanks for the replies folks will delete the encrypted channels and adult channels, yes she is eligible for help (turns 80 next month) but old folk being what they are like she says she doesn't help, it's working so I don't need a new one.

Sure, and it no doubt helps that the PVR80 is probably the most simplest PVR80 in terms of ease of use. I've only had one experience of the Digital Switchover Help Scheme, and it isn't a good one. Not sure what PVRs they supply, but the Goodmans STB they supplied to my grandma was terrible - in that within 48 hours of it being installed, the box had crashed requiring the plug to be removed to get it working again.

I have a Digihome PVR 80 and have recently noticed the loss of Challenge TV as I was recording Crystal Maze from it. A retune would get it back only for it to disappear again by the next evening. I have tried deleting some of the unwanted channels around it to no avail. I don't think I did a complete removal of all the encrypted ones though so I shall now do another retune, delete everything I don't want, and see what happens with Challenge TV!

I've seen Challenge (ch46) and also Really (ch20) drop off my PVR160 channel list recently. They reappear when I rescan, but this has happened at least 3 times in the last month. They are both on MuxC but other MuxC channels are not affected. Anybody have any ideas why? I'm in London receiving from Crystal Palace. I'll see if disabling the OTA software upgrade stabilises the channel list.

To sustain wanted channels on Vestel / Argos PVR, delete trash channels!

I would recommend leaving [software updates] enabled and just delete some channels. To be effective, the PVR must be kept "ON" until the channel deletions have been done. Regards |

Hi
You're describing the symptoms of this thread's issue - use the same resolution. If the PVR hasn't it already, it might miss a rebroadcast of the (desirable) v5.7 firmware; essential to use with some TV masts post-switchover - though not London's main mast "Crystal Palace". To be effective, the PVR must be kept "ON" until the channel deletions have been done. Regards Colin |

Thanks for the replies. I will delete unwanted channels and see if that sorts it out. I had deselected them from my Favourites List but until now I did not think I needed to delete them. Any reason why these particular channels are the ones that get lost?
I'm still using the unofficial twin record software before DSO but I'm ready to install v5.7 after DSO - I did this already on my mother's PVR when her region went digital. |
