I had a quick look on Amazon but didn't find anything apart from:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collected-Ho...dp/0955473306/

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Action-Story...dp/1852860235/

Both of which are out of print or at extortionate second hand prices.

Surprised this was never anthologized. I'd love to re-read the Spinball and Hook Jaw stories again.

Wouldn't I?

I don't know, would you?

I agree, it's long past time more reprints from Action were available, but the current owners of the Fleetway back catalogue seem uninterested in doing it (though the reprints of Battle's 'Charley's War' sell extremely well, so I don't know why).

A remastered reprint of Hook Jaw is due to start anytime now in a new title called Strip Magazine.

That page contains out of date information, but the main feed indicates that it will be released very soon.

That's fantastic news. The re-mastered picture they have up looks great - better than I remember so I wonder was it re-coloured or re-inked, or summat.

Wow, it really has been cleaned up. Compare and contrast that previous image with this:

Interesting site that. Ahem.

Well the current printing processes allow for much better colour reproduction than 70's comic bog roll stock would allow. But that example of the original is truely shocking, perhaps it was black and white artwork that was later recoloured as apose to artwork pencilled and inked and then coloured; where it was always the intention to have it in colour.

The new lettering does give it a better dynamic, although I do like the old style too.

I hope the re-booted strip gets released as a graphic novel - I think the difference in style is stark and for once newer is better.

That site answers your original question - they have every pre-ban issue online!

That Hook Jaw reprint is a huge improvement over the original. Would love to see them do the same with some of the really inky black and white strips like Dredger and Hellman.

BTW If anyone is interested, I have the pre-ban first Death Game 1999 issue (8th May 1976) and the 1979 action annual. Both in pretty good condition.

Action and Battle Picture Weekly full runs are *ahem* 'available'.

I'm not a big fan of acquiring in such a way, but until there's full reprint sets to buy or you get super-lucky on ebay, there's little else that can be done

I'd love to re-read the post-ban Actions and Battle/Action story Spinball Wars.

I used to buy Action, Battle Picture Weekly and later Battle/Action every week and loved them, and it'd be nice if more stories were reprinted although a good start has been made with Darkies Mob and Johnny Red from Battle, and Flesh/Flesh2 and Meltdown Man from 2000AD. My Battle and Action collection got dumped years ago but I still have 2000AD from no 4 to about 750ish.

Just bumping this thread to remind those interested that the previously mentioned new title Strip Magazine has just had it's first issue out at a comic shop near you*.

* if there is no comic shop near you then move.
