I did a search for update this morning at 10:25 and nothing was found. As I'm currently on 4.8 I assume that presuming the download has started this means that it is 4.8 being downloaded as a "repeat" and the DTG site is in error stating the download is new.

My box has downloaded v4.8 (built 2012-03-07 at 07:51:58) this morning. I downgraded to v4.1 after last update and will be doing same today and switching off automatic upgrades!

How could they release a firmware that is full of bugs. The amount of freezing and resets that that I have to do on only entering the EPG or the library or timers is rediculous.
What is the last known firmware that was stable? On a side note I was happy with v3.4. |

I have found that 4.8 has even more bugs than 4.6; it's just as slow and if any function is used during a recording the picture and sound now jump, this can be seen by looking at the recording count up time on the library during a recording, the time freezes while the box thinks about it's next move. this can be several seconds of recording missed.

I've been following this thread for some time after having problems with my Bush freeview recorder.
Decided to invest in the required leads and downgraded the software to V3.4 last night. Like a new box! Thanks. Last edited by msc0 : 24-04-2012 at 15:33. Reason: typo |

I even managed to use an IBM Thinkpad, Windows 5, PKzip and a 3.5 inch floppy disc to do the job. I am still getting the odd word missing and a screen pixellation on recordings though but a lot less than before DSO. Have not noticed on watching live. Signal quality is showing very good and signal level bar is not quite full but more than 75% and fairly close to the end, so I don't think I can improve on that. EDIT: Forgot to add, thanks to Futaura for making the software available. |

Here's another complaint, BBC Red Button becomes unusably slow, maybe this coincided with the Vote 2012 being added, no excuse though.
Have just done a First Time Installation and text is nice and fast again |

My local transmitter (Midhurst) had it's 3rd and final commissioning last week; it was recommended to retune after this date to check for any missing channels, having done this the recorder now works a lot faster and has less interruptions to recordings; I can't explain why it should function better, but it may be worth trying a retune to see if things improve.
I am using v4.8 firmware. |

The retune will have erased all timer information, both visible and that of the internal booking system. I believe that is why it is working better for now, but I am sure it will get worse again over time

. If it slows down again maybe a regular retune will help until the problem is fixed with the next OAD, but it needs doing when there are only a few timers set.

I see that v4.8 is being broadcast again from 10:00 on Wednesday 23rd May 2012 until 09:00 on Friday 25th May 2012.
As this seriously broken version is being broadcast for the fifth time, it seems Vestel are totally contemptuous of their users. I will stick with v3.4 until and unless Vestel finally come up with a version that works better. However, in view of their obvious disdain for their users, when I come to replace the PVR I will look elsewhere for my next one.

They either don't read the forums or just don't care. I'm looking for an HD PVR but I wouldn't have a Vestel one if they paid me! |

It's not only Vestal that have issued faulty firmware, TomTom have done the same to my TomTom one IQ making the font on speed limits too small, they don't care either and have not produced a fix.
Large company don't care about their customers once they have sold a product. |

I was going to post this morning to report on what the software did with above situation as I decided to leave it as it was just as an experiment.
QUOTE=tweenie;56671827] Ironically, despite its problems I'm looking for another T835 for elderly parent ready for DSO, I want Mum to have the same as me so that I can talk her through it if I have to ! Quote:
I set it up to record two 9pm progams ( BBC1/BBC3) and they appeared underlined ok and in timer list. I went back to box after 10pm and they were still recording and everything underlined in red until 00:30. It thought both programs were 3.5 hours long. Quote:
It's not so strange - IIRC, there is a condition in the Freeview+ spec that software should record something like 3 extra from the scheduled start time (as a safeguard), should it have trouble picking up the start signal for any reason. I very rarely see this happen on my T835 - it tends to happen more often on my T816. I've never used v2.5, and it could of course be a glitch in that version that is triggering this condition without good reason.
She phones me just after 8 saying she can't switch to channel 3. It turns out she is recording (by accident ) channel 723. I tell her to go to library and select the 723 program and press stop, but it only came up with 'stop recording BBC1', I then talked her through trying to stop it from timers list and then whilst watching 723, but nothing worked. She then told me the 723 program was listed as recording for 5 hours! It also had the title of an afternoon program. We had to give up in the end. Irony is I found out today the program she wanted to watch is repeated on Monday. This morning I was trying to work out why it would have recorded for 5 hours and remembered about the condition in the Freeview+ spec that software should record something like 3 extra from the scheduled start time (as a safeguard) but they should allow us to STOP the damn thing. You are probably thinking user error which it most likely was for the setup but I'm pretty sure she was pressing all the buttons I told her to try and stop the recording. I even managed to talk her through an FTI a few weeks back. Unfortunately it is not a situation I can recreate to test. |

Further to my previous post I visited the offending box on Friday and it was still recording 74 hours later !
The program was in the library twice, once as 29/5 14:25 hrs 3 mins 17s secs and again in the library as recording 29/05 14:25 and 74 hours. The only way to stop it was to turn off at wall ( which was not feasible on Tuesday). When the box came back on it flashed up 'hdd' and I thought then it was kaput but it came on ok. |
