I'm wondering if the FTI procedure triggered by the update and carried out as instructed (including a retune) does not delete the Timers but if you decline the retune procedure initially (as you did) but perform a retune later this does delete the Timers?

To avoid any misunderstanding, this "feature" is what I referred to (possibly incorrectly!) as a "regression". i.e. The old T816 does keep a static info box while searching programmes with the"text" key.

Unfortunately, this feature was changed with the T835 and so both v3.4 and v.4.6 now turn off the info box when scrolling to another programme, necessitating another press of the "info" button. Really annoying!

Why do they have to break things that work well?

Using 4.6, several times this evening whilst scrolling in the Library and Timers list the unit froze for up to about 10 seconds before responding to the Up and Down keys. When the unit eventually responded to the initial command any other keys pressed whilst frozen were also implemented in quick succession. I don't recall seeing this happening on the T835 on previous software versions. I recall it did occur very rarely on my T825 and/ or T816 units.

I noticed that on 4.6 the total duration of the boot process is approximately 70s. This is not much longer than the duration prior to the disk initialisation message occurring on previous software versions. Is it possible they have deleted the disk initialisation procedure under "normal" booting conditions? I recall that on my T825 LP250HDMI disk initialisation was only carried out under certain conditions when re-booting. I suspected this was dependent on whether or not the HDD had been running when the unit was put into standby.

Woke up to see FtI on the front of my Hitachi HDR165, got worried when I thought it meant 'fatal'! In fact it had been updated to V4.6. I welcome the fact that Timers have been retained during the rescan. I will report on any improvements or quirks in a few days, but I can already sense a few oddities

Well, there's the disk check and "disk initialisation". The disk check on the T835 is shown by "Hdd" on the front panel - this is the not normally run, and is basically a complete filesystem check of the drive. The "disk initialisation" procedure is always run, and the name is perhaps misleading - I'm not 100% sure what it does during this time, but the time taken is directly related to how full your library is.

Subtitles seem to have been given more priority. They appear much more quickly when you switch them on, but at the cost of the programme freezing for a couple of seconds when you switch them off sometimes.

The long pause going into Manual Scan has been remedied, but there are more instances of button/display lag generally.

Parts of MHEG have become slightly transparent and show the TV picture through or are just darker because of transparency over the black screen, a minor niggle..

Ooops. It was Disk Check I was incorrectly referring to.

I did notice on boot from LP Standby this morning the process took 95s (compared to 70s yesterday). The number of recordings in the Library has increased from about 45 to 60 in that time. Also we are due for DSO in about 2 weeks time and this morning on boot up I received a message warning of this so maybe that added to boot time?

I did a rescan and lost all my timers, oops.

I have just discovered another drop-off with v4.6 relating to the "TV out" configuration options of RGB or CVBS. Previous versions of Vestel software (as far back as my first Vestel digibox in 2006) allow this to be changed by the user. My ancient CRT TV gives the best picture using the CVBS setting as, with RGB set, the picture is offset to the left and is quite blurry. With CVBS set the picture is perfect - far better than any flat-screen modern marvel I have seen.

The new v4.6 release has now broken this functionality as it (correctly) allows selection of CVBS and this displays the picture correctly. However, when the T835 goes into LP standby and is then restarted, the TV Out setting reverts to the default RGB and the resulting distorted picture. Note that when this occurs the menu option still shows CVBS selected but the unit is actually using RGB output. A quick toggle of the option restores the CVBS output but it is unacceptable to do this after every boot.

It amazes me that Vestel have been tinkering with this particular functionality - this has worked fine for many years so why break it?

Does anyone have a reliable email address for contacting the techies at Vestel to initiate a formal bug report - possibly with a few other "wish list" items?

I am very disappointed with this release and, as I have yet to see a single improvement, I will revert to v3.4 unless a new update is released shortly that resolves the problems discussed here.

I wouldn't have thought so. Presumably you are referring to the MHEG banners that pop up at the bottom of the screen? Or has v4.6 possibly inherited some more features from the T7300 - the T7300 displays an info box in its own user interface about scheduled network changes, which includes rescan events and not just DSO (incidentally, it will also suggest that a rescan is required when you switch it on after there have been network changes).

A further bug became apparent yesterday when, after a single news bulletin had been correctly recorded, the programme title remained in the Timer list, but with no time or date info.

As my update to v4.6 triggered the default "First Time Installation", my old Timers list was retained. Thinking that this could be part of the problem, and in an effort to resolve my CVBS problem (see post #112 above), I did another "First Time Installation". This time, not surprisingly, all entries in the Timers list were deleted. So, not all FTI's are equal!

I then tried to record another single programme and, this time, the programme was correctly deleted from the Timer list after recording was completed.

As my post #112 describes, the CVBS bug remains.

I can confirm that this issue shows up here too . I'd guess they didn't specifically tinker with this, but it is probably more to do with changed locations of variables in nvram and the wrong location is being read on boot.

You may wish to add some items to http://pvrbugs.futaura.co.uk/ - one issue per report please. I can't promise that they will fix all issues, but I will do all I can to make sure they read or are at least aware of your reports. This database has been an invaluable tool during T7300 testing and Vestel have made use of it themselves (that project is hidden at the moment), so maybe I can get them involved with the T835 section too. Admittedly, I probably need to give the existing items there a clear out.

Not sure, other posts since tend to confirm that methinks, but it would have been better not to have left the user guessing which method might preserve the timers if there was any choice. In any case I don't understand why a re-scan should be necessary anyway, it's got nothing to do with a software update.

Thanks for that futaura. I will update the bugs website when I get chance. However, I am not optimistic that Vestel will drop everything to issue a quick-fix and so I think I will return to v3.4 in the meantime.

I have just checked out http://www.vestelpvr.futaura.co.uk/T835.php but the download link for v3.4 no longer seems to be working. I think I recall there were other links about the actual update process that also seem to be missing.

Could you please check these out and restore them if possible - there may be others who wish to go back to v3.4 for a while.

I don't disagree with you on that - I was surprised that nothing was changed when the v3.4 happened, because that disabled the AUX button on the remote and therefore essentially bricking boxes that users happened to have left in AUX mode right before updating (the boxes remained stuck in AUX mode - only way to fix was to downgrade, press the AUX button, and update to v3.4 again).

I wish I had known this update was coming as panicked when I was presented with FTI as I thought i had lost all recordings.

I can't remember now which method above I used to perform rescan but I DID lose all timers which I was none too pleased about as they took me an age to setup again as the box now really slow to respond to buttons.

For example, I could have gone and made a cup of tea in the time it took to delete a program from the library ( ok slight exageration but it did take ages).

Seems only me and another poster on another thread has reported slowness.

Have not seen any advantages to this release, only disadvantages so far.

Had been thinking of buying another one of these for elderly relative but in two minds now.

To clarify my experience, when the freezing does not occur and excluding the delay in deleting recordings I find in general, navigation of the user interface is faster than on previous software versions.

I noticed a major slowdown problem immediately after updating one box, but now all is fine - even after 3 hours powered on, the EPG is still nice and fast. Like you, I get the impression that it is generally faster than before.

I've also updated two other boxes which seem to be behaving normally. Are you all using the default settings? Just wondering if some setting is triggering this issue. The two v4.1 boxes didn't trigger an FTI, but did reset the settings like an FTI, but no rescan. The v3.4 box did trigger an FTI, although I have since performed two or more extra FTIs on it as the box had a hardware fault (now it doesn't ).

On the plus side I notice that the green button trailer booking feature has appeared in v4.6, which is a Freeview+ HD requirement - surprised to see it appear on the T835.

Hi--anyone else on hanninton seen this. I have a new issue to report. I'm on hannington transmitter and post update> full rescan I had lost bbc4 and all else on mux B (mainly radio). Even though I specified to restrict the scan to just hannington (listed as berks and nth hants) some of the missing stations appeared as 800 channels (thought this only occured when duplicates existed) However on testing bbc 4 and a radio station there was nothing there ie no signal. I tried a manul scan for ch46b (muxb) and it showed as no signal. (This t835 is my second box --my digital stream is recieivng this mux just fine as did the technika prior to 4.6 update). I did another full rescan stil no muxb and this time no 800 channels listed. Checking channel 46 now flicks first to same signal strength as othe muxes but after initially showing very good for sig quality it drops to NONE!.(the strength still shows aas strong as all other muxes) This does seem to sugest transmitter issues but there again the other DS is fine. Iam appx 3.5 mls form transmitter---I can see it! Comments welcome! Currently I'm hoping the forthcoming dswitchover will fix things
