1.You watch a soap and think its real
2. You think the Director should show the blood and gore of a real birth
3. You think the bitch Tracy is a real nice girl
4. You are thinking of a making a bid for the bookies coz its a real winner

Merry bloody Xmas, one and all
lol this is one of the best threads on ds, and makes watching all the more fun. Hopefully you're just joking so Merry Christmas to you too!

You have to feel sorry for the production team. They went to the expense of having a "white Christmas", only for it to be the third mildest ever recorded!

I'm afraid Deirdre has really gone down in my estimation. Still not saying a word about what really happened even though Becky nearly lost her life. Not that I'd be upset about that, but Deirdre has always been one of the "good" characters (well apart from her dozen or so infidelities, of course!)
Well I think she would be out of hospital (they get as many people out as possible because they're short staffed over Christmas!) but what I can't believe is that she's well enough to go to the bar just 3 days later and even if she was physically well enough you wouldn't leave a 3 day old baby!

This is Coronation Street. There are only ever three days in a week in Corrie - every episode is always the day after the episode before, even if there has been a whole weekend in between out here in the real world. It is one of those things we must just live with and handwave away.

I can believe it. I once knew a girl who gave birth in the morning and by teatime was down the bingo, with her hours-old newborn in tow!

Ben Watts was Curly's son, yes.

If not, I still like you as you are nearly as miserable as me.

Also, when the Christmas decorations go up, there are suddenly plenty of cards on display. However, the quantity of Christmas cards does not seem to change in the 2 weeks or so leading up to Christmas!

Are we supposed to believe that anyone receives all their cards at once?

I don't often venture into soaps and I'm not sure this is the right thread even, but tonight when Chesney was holding the crying baby, you could clearly see his face and that he wasn't crying at all. I thought that was a bad mistake for Coronation Street, which is usually quality.

A bit late on here as I've only just caught up with Corrie over Christmas, but as mentioned...a young girl goes into labour, mentions her waters have broken (but her trousers looked dry, sorry I know we don't want a documentary on birth but a bit of realism would be nice), and within a fairly short amount of time, gives birth to a week old baby (). The ambulance never turns up even though theres a general hospital in Weatherfield and a midwife working on the street...but two numpties dressed as elves (who's van wouldn't start...wasn't this done with Tyrone/Molly/baby Jack?) got there no problems. Added to which, it was a nativity, she was playing Mary and the baby is called Joseph. Oh come on Corrie. Writers have a week off in August??

Completely agree. We spoke about this at length a few weeks back.

From nothing at all, all of a sudden the rooms of Weathrefield are full to bursting with cards.

All this nonsense with Becky going to the police. Have soap characters never heard of dictaphones? I always think this. All she has to do is get Tracy alone, beg her to tell the truth, record Tracy's response, and play it to Steve. Problem solved.

The idea that they would leave a new born baby with three blokes who had cans of beer with them was madness. Even if Katy did want to get out , her mother would have stayed.

I don't fully understand the Becky / Tracy thing. Didn't Becky know that Tracy had already miscarried when she fell down the stairs and if she did , would it not be an easy matter to check with the hospital to see that she had been admitted the day before she fell down the stairs..

And Eva not paying rent to her mother when she has a full time job, Yeah right..And Nick has only just realised that living with his mother is not a good idea.,.

Sylvia came home from a cruise on Christmas day. Would a cruise finish on Christmas day, and how would all those on board get home if they didn't have a car ,as there is no public transport then. Does Sylvia have a car or did she take a taxi from Southampton?

Yes the whole Tracey/Becky thing is ridiculous. I cant invest in Tracey anyway because quite honestly the character shouldnt even be out of prison! And those terrible episodes when she walked around being foul to everyone and having sex all over the place last year with Platts and someone else I cant remember. I cant wait for Becky to go and I wish someone woujld burn that awful dirty leopard jacket she is wearing.
The baby business - as a general rule, (and Im not saying everyone) when you have a baby it really takes over your life, and you (generally) do not want to move or leave it. You also have a mixture of exhaustion, complete unconditional love and shock. Well you generally do.

Nobody except Deirdre knew that Tracy had the miscarriage the day before. If Becky knew she would have brought this up ages ago.

There are cruise coaches that meet the cruises at Southampton so she could have returned on one of those. Whether they'd be running on Christmas Day is another matter.

I find it hard to believe she could return home on Christmas Day and on Boxing Day be cooking her 'signature dish' of ham with creamed spinach. Where/how/when did she purchase the ingredients???

Thanks - I'd completely forgotten about him. Actually, I can't even bring him to mind now ...did they leave soon afterwards?
